Hello, I looking for a tutorial or a method to learn how to make layering with pads.

Indeed, I wish to use this technique in a track: i made a trial today by using 3 synths, the first in the register playing a fifth chord in the medium, and two others, medium-high and high, playing octaves of the fundamental ones. I 've filtered each one of these layers according to their register, by putting a low-cut and hi-cut according to their respective register. Each one of these layers being panned differently, to have a full sound. I've sent the whole in a track groups with chorus, delay, reverb, compressor and eq. But the result; was not conclusive! I based myself on this method:
http://audio.tutsplus.com/tutorials/mixing-mastering/how-to-mix-pad-string-sounds-to-create-an-atmospheric-backdrop/
And this tuto: http://howtomakeelectronicmusic.com/how-to-use-layering-to-make-your-leads-sound-huge

less interesting and where the guy uses the same octave for the 3 sounds! … Therefore, here my questions: to pan the layers or not? And if so, according to which logic? Is the idea of filtering according to the different parts of the spectrum right? Is it interesting to add a limiter device on each layer.
I do not find much informations on this subject on the Net! I would like to create a good quite full pad, a cosmic carpet!

My problem is that I do not manage to correctly position the sounds, which end up obstructing the others, and to have a stable and correct volume.

Does anybody use this technique and could give me advices or techniques please?

Thank you and Psychedelic christmas or something else to all of you!

Panning stuff left-right is a trick as old as recording studios, this widdens the sounds way way the fuck up.Just be sure to differentiate the sound between the speakers, the simplest way is putting slight delay on one of the channels, and nothing on the other.
You would be surprised how much better and wider this sounds.

Thanks a lot!

I 've used this method in a track recently, The two synths playing the same pattern at the same octave, symmetrically panned, with a small delay on one of these channels, as you describe it.           http://www.myspace.com/roboterkommtzumir

Well,I ment delay without feedback, just one side is slightly different then other,it gives it very fattening effect.Thats the basic effect (when one side is slightly delayed),you can try old kinds of differentiation between L and R ,and experiment with it.
But that trick you told is also very nice.           From all the things I lost, that sandwitch cost me most :)
