pad volume envelope automation

Okay so I've spent the last few hours automating the attack and release on the volume envelope of long pads to try and fit them together nicely.

I'm finding it pretty hard, though. Every time I think i've cracked it I have a listen back and its all wrong.

Is there a special nack to doing this? I've also tried hooking the attack and release to a macro and automating the macro without much luck. I feel that this could work with a lot of tweaking, but I'd rather not do it if it turns out to be completely pointless.

Thanks for the help!

no such thing.

you could try mapping the volume of the pads to some faders, then record automation on those manually to make it sound nice... just an idea. Sometime its easier to get things to sound nice when you have control with your hands instead of the mouse... Good luck!           --

This is impossible!

Mr. CEgreg, I dunno what type of effect you are searching for ,but it seems like you want to have a total control of that pad sound.. And automating the attack and remaining envelope settings is one way to go, but of what I understood when adjusting to one point you are missadjusting the other.. so bounce it to audio!

Make the attack sound good in one point, render that, then go to the other and render it too, like this adjusting in one place will not affect the other.

Care to post an example?

Also, just to be sure, do you have any mapping that will screw up the envelope times? Like, for example, the mapping of the key track or velocity to the envelope attack or amount?           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz

wasn't actually saying that he had too much automation, i was saying he was already thinking of such quantities of automation that makes him pratically blind to the big pic

I'm not quite sure exactly how to follow this method. Are you saying sort out the attack and bounce each note to audio regions?

I'm basically trying to get the notes to blend into each other nicely. I've been automating the glide as well.

The track is 10 minutes long as well and the notation of the pad changes throughout. maybe it would be more practical to automate it in this situation?

hang on, do you maybe mean bounce each note to audio and crossfade the regions on top of each other?

That's another way of doing it
Really I don't know exactly there it's messed up, but I was talking about rendering it in bars or 4 or 8 bars or even more.. but if it doesn't work on a note by note scale then yeah a note by note render will work (but be very tedious..)

but why cant you make the attack and release work? Please show us whats wrong so we can help you better!           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz
