Lately I have been musing, some time ago when I was in Hawai'i, I started putting on my own parties, the sound systems were generally pretty crappy at the locations I found for my fiesta dabblings.
Now after a long time I am musing about putting on my own events again, though this time with my own PA system. After reading a bit in the internet I came across several names which keep on popping up here and there.
Yorkville seems to be widely used nowadays, many people do seem to prefer JBL systems to Yorkville though, other folks swear on Yamaha systems, yet other peeps say that nothing beats Function 1 systems, albeit these come at quite a stiff price. Other folks say that Peavey systems are best for small places...
Either way, what the hell do I know about this??? Not much, so here goes...
What in your opinion is a set that you would like to see at your gig? Please keep in mind that I am not talking about the biggest loudest rig, more about the best sounding, and location wise (e.g. indoor and outdoor) PA system that is well suited for EDM in general... price is of course a factor, after all I am not rich...
I look forward to your ideas...
Ps.: I know there have been other threads regarding this subject, but the search function in this forum did not help me in particular, hence the repost...

its not just about the speakers, its also about the amping. In fewer days PA amps used to be heavy weight ones..the modern ones are very light on weight, so do not feel uncomfortable with that if you experience this.
i would suggest crest audio amping wich is really great.
for speakers i would suggest a line array system , because you can reach the people in the front almost the same as the people in the back due to the banana style build up.
Meyer Sound comes to my mind for example. But you would need to fly them, wich might not always be possible.

We have had good experiences with small Turbosound systems for parties with 100-200 people (2 subs, 2 tops). They pack quite a punch and if you stack more together you can easily have enough for 1000 people. But yes, the amps are really important as well. We have also used single Mackie active PA's for about 100 people.
I don't have much insight into PA's in general, just passing on my experience

we have this kit from QSC its been year....
we got it in berlin to use here in the valley and we havent see anyone impressed yet...
we gather around 150 people in non comercial parties and not always we can use the sub... if we are too close of the village and we turn on the sub we get in deep trouble and still even without subs people still get impressed.

If you're considering events up to 1000 people, I need to recommend Opus Audio, a small company in the UK.

I've heard and played on some truly amazing rigs such as Meyer, Totec, Nexo, Funktion 1, but for sheer quality of sound in a stacked rig (as opposed to flown) - I'm in love with them. They make their own amps and crossovers too, and specialise in supplyin complete systems so everything works together optimally; they are proud of the fact that there are no digital components in what they make or sell, including the crossover (which is the only 'system controller' the rig needs). I've not heard bass like it, nor as smooth a top end. The best sound systems IMO.
