Hello everyone
Since my original topic was locked before i could answer i have to open a new one because i have to say a few things.

to Apocalypse Now: Are you a promoter? you must be...why am i even asking...dumb me.
BTW Before they fly in here tell them to prepare a slot for one hour and bring Dean, not Kelly.

REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD ONE...the best i read in the past few months. Did u come up with it all by yourself?
Cooooooooome on...who helped' y'a?

to Basilisk & others:
READ IT AGAIN...the whole thing...
i never stated she is the first...DUH*&%!!@%#@^&^%(&^)(&* although if she reaches the potential some see in her she might be on another level...wich would probably be considered first...since right now Toronto scene is small and it has been for a some years...so....
i said she is new and i havent said that this is a new thing...
TOPIC line said (i think), which implies ambiguousness, thus playfull tone, wich continues into the msg...
i am so so soooooooo sry next time i will leave another cliche promo....as dull and dry as possible...

Basilisk said:

"yes, i'll admit it, i find it to be in bad taste when gender is used as a promotional tactic. however, i in no way mean to bring anyone down, and if you knew me you'd know that i am nothing but supportive of those who deserve it."

while u were replying to digbeez, the first sentence was surely addressed to me.

Explain to me why exactly do you see it as "bad taste"?

So what if i did decided to mention that she is a girl ...on some promoters it will work...might be just what they are looking for....and if it helps her so what?
so what if it will be easier for her to succed because she is a girl and used
that fact...or others used it...
"BAD TASTE"?
WTF? What are you jellous becuase you are a guy and it was/is harder on you or something?
I dont get it.
I dont consider anyone, who wants to use genders as promotion tool, with bad taste...I am sure Bathory and most others did it too at one time or another.

With you it doesnt end there...your second sentence in quote contradicts your first one.
first your dissing me for trying to get her somehwere and then u say u supportive guy....
You are saying that:
"however, i in no way mean to bring anyone down, and if you knew me you'd know that i am nothing but supportive of those who deserve it"

"Those who deserve it"?
Does CosmicMuffin deserves support ( cause you never said anything about her)? you never heard her. REMINDER...we are talking in the context of forum replies. its so simple. u could've added to your first reply GOOD LUCK or somethin - would make her feel more inspired and driven...
Did you decide to ignore the real msg of the post because you didnt like the way I PUT it?
(Probably based on the topic line, first reply and thats it) THEN DONT REPLY AT ALL...
Better yet, in your mind, who DOES deserve support? WTF is that - deserve?
We are all in the same thing...GET IT?

And maybe i am to high and a bit angry right now to make it short and clear (cause this is long)...but i dont give a shit...digbeez had a point somewhere in his first post...stop finding reasons to shit on ppl...u can relay the same information in a different way...

To Digbeez:

you said: Why you so fuckin accurate?!
It looks like iam in the court and not in the
shanti place, everyone so straight and uptight

thank you.

here...he got the msg right from the first try...

Dude, you need to chill out. You are getting way too worked up about such a small thing.

You just said that you made the thread topic in a playful tone, I thought it was funny so I responded accordingly. You didn't like my joke, that's unfortunate but what does that have to do with promoting anything? I'm a college student in Florida man, other then spinning sometimes when I'm drunk at after parties I have absolutely nothing to do with anyone. This is twice so far in the past week that I've been accused of being someone I'm not by someone in Toronto. It's really hilarious.

Back to the topic, let's see if we can have a civil conversation here. I'm also not a big fan of using a persons sex to promote a DJ. It seems like a cheap gimmick to me and it's not the kind of thing I like to see happen in the Trance scene. When I go to a party to see a DJ all I care about is the kind of music they play and how well they mix. If the promotor of the party needs to pull in people by advertising that "we have a female DJ, come check her out" then something is wrong.

There is no reason why a woman can't get her name out by establishing herself as a good DJ instead of taking the other route which might attract the wrong crowd. DJing isn't manual labor or anything, there's no reason that a female can't spin as good or even better then her male counterparts.

and lay off Basilisk please. He's a good guy and he's been on this forum for god knows how long now. If you would have been here longer you would probably understand better where he's coming from. He's done a lot for the psytrance scene in Toronto and doesn't deserve to be attacked the way he has around here lately.

peace           Both teams played hard

Apocalypse Now...u have a point...
and in retrospect maybe my post wasnt in place...
I am not a promoter either, never been, so i didnt even think that mentioning she is a girl would be a cheap promotional gimik...
if it was a guy i would put guy in place of girl...the same context...so personally i dont c what the big deal is...but forget it...

I was at one party she played...wanted to get her to play some more...(since i cant invite dj's home for private sessions...)
Mybe u are right about your post...and i just misunderstood it...that happens with typed messeges...

It doesnt matter anymore...in the past...at least for me.
As for Basilisk...that is too in the past as well...
Its just angering to c a simple post with good intentions become shit and get closed.

Yo Demi, next time you decide to take the 5 hour drive up to Gainesville I will most definetly invite you to party. Or maybe I should just make a thread about it? It will probably go something like this:

After party tonight in Campus Lodge- Building 16, apartment 32. Come after 2. Expect to drive around for at least a half an hour looking for a guest parking spot. It's BYOW, but don't worry, we'll supply the 4 footer. Expect lots of dumb frat boys, a couple of sorrority sluts, at least 7 people cramming into the bathroom to do shitty coke, 3/4th of a keg of Natty Light that will be gone within an hour, a 4:1 ratio if you are lucky and some horrible mixes by your good friend Apocalypse Now. If you see some drunk cow screaching at the DJ: "shut off that crappy techno" or "can you put on Hey Ya by Outkast already?" then you know you found me. Expect more Son Kite and Sub6 then you ever wanted to hear in one night.

(wasn't this supposed to be about some chick spinning records?)           Both teams played hard

I'm sorry " Basilisk " but simon has got a point, i mean who are you to decide who deserves what, when or how, did you ever hear her playing by any chance to know if she deserves a shot or not?(not that that i've heard her, but still.)
So think twice before you open your mouth, and i know that's a syndrome that kids have, tell me something " Basilisk " how Old are you?

*sigh* come on, you're taking a lot of what I say way too seriously. I could get pretty angry and blustery and so on, but I hardly feel that would be of any use...

Re: "bad taste", its all subjective, right? Everyone has their own personal feelings on promotion tactics. There is no objective right/wrong for how people get the news out. You may think that it is ok to put on a flyer the a DJ comes from another country even if they're living here, whereas I find that to be mildly deceptive given the context of promotional text on a flyer. Again, this is just an example - and I'm trying to elaborate on the point that you could think the complete opposite, and that would be all right too.

Re: "those who deserve it" this does not in any way imply that your friend doesn't! And this is always a personal choice as well (I wouldn't presume to say any one person can deem an entity worth support or not from the community-at-large). For example, if a promoter comes into the city and you feel (since this is, again, a subjective thing) that they are preying on the scene by throwing poor events with high door prices to make money, then you can decide that they don't deserve your support. You might even feel strongly about this and tell some friends or post one of your thoughts on the net. This is ok! Its called communication.

You know there is a certain irony to the fact that you are cursing the 'uptight' nature yet you're acting remarkably sensitive over all this. I did note your playful tone and it was in that spirit that I posted an off-the-cuff piece of data! Obviously I should have padded my words with 'in my opinion' and added a few emoticons and we wouldn't be in this spot now.

waltman: who am I to decide who deserves support? who are you? we're all people and we have opinions. Everyone does. Is mine more valuable than yours? or vice versa? this is all relative, and as fluid as opinions are... if you respect someone, you might find their opinion to carry more weight. If not, the opposite is true. Each person has their own subjective sense of other people out there. You think I've decided whether she deserves support? I haven't even heard a demo or seen her play or know anything more than that she's got a couple of very enthusiastic pals on the internet!

Re: 'so think twice before you open your mouth' and your question about age... don't be ridiculous. I think you see my correspondence here as an attack on a friend and are being correspondingly defensive. Anyhow the irony of the statement is probably not lost on everyone...

Now at this point, I'm still as interested as I ever was in hearing this dj's skills. I am -always- interested in whats going on here in Toronto. I figured a link to an mp3 demo would be forthcoming eventually, or otherwise I might hear her at a party one day. Is my crime that I didn't jump all over this and email the guy? I've been sort of lazy recently (hence short curt messages!) and just trying to chill out. So shoot me

Apologies for the verbosity of this post but the intention is to be crystal clear... there's really no need for this drama! peace out, party people..
