On 'Live Ethereal Ceriel', Ozriccs pay direct homage to Gong in the track 'Om Riff', which is in fact the main riff from 'Master Builder' off the album 'You'(1974) by Gong. In my opinion, 'You' is a great starting point to explore Gong.
True enough, the bands have as many different sounds as they do similiar...I thing it's Daevid Allen's (Gong founder) Ideas and lyrics that are sooo psychedelic! He created quite a mythology about planet Gong, Zero the Hero, and the Radio-Gnomes! I saw them live on their 25th anniversary tour and was blown away! They create what they call the 'nuclear mystery temple', which is basically this gathering of energy and dispersed throughout the crowd/band...crazy and very real to experience! True magick!
To add...Kevin Ayers from the Soft Machine was also a founding member of Gong. Obviously, I thing Gong have had a huge impact on what we know as psytrance, as have Ozrics!
Have you heard 'Floating Seeds-Ozrics remixed'(madfish/snappermusic-1999)? Simon Posford and Youth have some mixes on that!

mp3 version of an old tape of some unreleased bits...apparently once upon a time you could mail the boys a tape and ed would fill it with goodies and send it back to you.
the ozrics and eat static were definitely responsible for my entry into the world of psytrance...IMO the ozrics have been going a bit downhill over the last few years, with ed being the only founding member left in the band the last i heard...

I've never been a big Ozrics fan - but have seen them loads - more by accident - including one of their first ever gigs (Stonehenge in 1984 - I was only 16 though...).. To me... they always sounded like the most tedious bits of YES.. which - IMHO - is very boring indeed... BUT... they have had a large influence on psy music.. and to be fair - Sploosh is great tune...
Also - two of the founder Ozric members went off to form Eat Static - who've had a similarly massive (if not bigger) influence on psychedelic dance music - particualrly UK psy dance music as they were one of the first hippy techno acts... |

the remix album wasn't imho very good.
too electroish for me in a way
but posford's rmx is one of the best tunes he's ever done. i hoped very much he'd continue on this course but...

I have to agree...as a whole, I was very dissapointed in the rmx album, but think posford's rmx is great! It goes back to Alias's reference to finding similarities in o.t.'s tunes and simon posford's...

Some weeks ago they played in my little town. It was an awesome show, have to recommend this music to all who love the psychedelic. |
