Oxygen 8 MIDI out to Alesis IO2 MIDI in?

My Oxygen 8 v2's USB port is broken, so I imagine the only way to use it would be with a DC power pack and a 5 pin MIDI cable, both of which I have connected.
The cable is going from the Oxygen 8's MIDI out to the Alesis IO 2's MIDI in, but no MIDI data is being sent to the interface.
Am I wrong about using the controller in this way, or is there something I'm missing out on?

Sounds fine..did you make sure the IO2's midi in is enabled in your sequencer?

I looked in Device Setup, don't really know what to look for. USB Audio device is the only available MIDI input I can activate, and using that as my input doesn't seem to do anything. |

Cubase, but I'm still not getting any data sent to the interface itself. The problem seems to lie between the controller and the sound card. |

Oh, tried with Reason, Virtual DJ and Traktor. No other interface/controller at that studio. |
