looks interesting..but isn`t it just for insulating ? not really for absorbing frequencies or do i miss something? do you just want to plug them on the wall, or use them to build boxes/panels?           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

If I'm going to take the time and energy to make panels, I want to make them as effective as possible

Almost all bass traps are just fiberglass insulation. Any material of the right size and density will work, and OC 703/705 4-6" thick is as good as it gets for practical purposes.

+1 @ rock wool and mineral wool           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

Owens Corning tends to cost more, without really providing much of a difference acoustically. Any supply store should be able to give you something that's comparable. Some alternatives could be John-Mansville, Certainteed, Guardian, & Knauf. Just talk to the people at the supply store, they'll find something. In the states, going to builder/contractor supply stores directly were much cheaper than retail Home Depot type places.

The good news is that most insulation manufacturers will give you acoustic specs on their products, since it's frequently used for that as well.

I've heard stories of rockwool sagging over time, hence the recommendation of rigid batts. If it's supported properly in a frame, that might not be an issue.

I'd be interested in some good links ,articles or turorial about an own way of making good accoustic treatment for a room.
Without spending like 2000 euros for it but only with regular material costs.
I'm moving to a new flat in some days that would be interesting to me.
Seems eazy at first sight but than I was thrilled when reading that one product of owens absorbst from 250 hz to 20kzh and other from 20hz-20khz.. and stuff like that.
Where is the difference in the material or how to achive both?
Fibreglass should be unhealthy when breathing for instance how to cover it and stff like that.Or is mineral wood better? Sounds so atleast. .. Thanks.

The link I posted in that thread actually does cover how insulation absorbers work in the 20-250 Hz range.
http://www.ethanwiner.com/acoustics.html

All insulation products will affect all frequencies, it's just a matter of how much they do it. Increasing the thickness increases the absorption.

As far as cancer goes, so long as the fiberglass is covered with a fabric that will not let the fibers out, there should be no issue.
