But if you think about how many psytrance DJs there are these days in every scene, they're probably going to need a lot of music...

I kind of agree, too much stuff coming out of this label, but personally I think that there's some jems between the stones! I have found great tracks from Ovnimoon rec

A label's role is to filter out the Gems from the Stones dear Suntribal and not release everything that reaches its offices and leave this task to the listeners.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

There's also a factor, that is called taste, dear Detox and someone's rubish, is somebody else's treasure

Everyone thinks that has the best taste out of everybody, but unfortunately that's not the case! I'm pretty sure that you think that you have released one of the best comps ever released and I'm pretty sure that you also think that you have organised some of the best parties in the world, but guess what, that's not the case either

I seem to recall the idea of them releasing anything they got sent was implied by their mission statement when they started up, something like "Artists! If you want to be on Beatport, send us your music", kind of thing. I've tried to find their original post but I can't.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Suntribal i said something different and you answered with something different. The factor taste would apply if Ovnimoon would be releasing a "normal" number of releases every year, having 60 releases a year (more than a release a week) is not a matter of taste, i mean the guys in the label dont even have the proper time to introduce and promote a release to the public.

And yes it seems to me like Colin said that their only mission is just to release everything on Beatport and get a share of the profits, this doesnt seem like a high taste mission to me......           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Some labels in example the House scene have more than 60 releases a year and 99% of their releases are awesome. Of course they have the staff and money to enable proper promotion and many of the best artists releasing with them.

Point is. You can have a lot of releases a year and still release quality. It's not as black and white as you make it dear Detox.

Regarding Ovnimoon I got no clue if their releases are quality or not (IMO) as I have never listened to any of their releases.           www.beatagency.dk

Kristian we are talking about the psy trance scene here which is tiny comparing to the house scene in all aspects.

Armada Music run by Armin Van Buuren and David Lewis has something like 30 sublabels releasing probably a cd every 2-3 days but David Lewis alone can buy the whole psytrance scene just with a move of his finger.

So lets stick to the psy trance reality please.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Suntribal you are missing the whole meaning of this discussion AGAIN i am afraid.

What is quality psytrance for each person is something very personal, what might be quality for me can be rubbish for you and vice versa.

THE POINT IS that each label must have a filter system in order to release what is considered quality music for the label's standards and leave everything else out. For example when i was running my label I NEVER released any track that i didnt liked and didnt thought as quality music, this meant that sometimes i had to reject tracks from really famous artists that would help me get more sales BUT i really didnt like the music i received so i had to decline.

Ovnimoon is having 5 releases a month so there can only be two explanations. Either the label has the best A&R personell in the whole psy trance scene which makes it able for them to find solid artists with solid music on a weekly basis OR they have extremely low standards concerning their releases and they just release everything they get on their hands in order to sell this music through Beatport and get a share from the profits.

If you look carefully the roster of Ovnimoon Records you will notice that the majority of releases comes from new artists with no previous releases in their backround or with releases on their own or their friends labels (i would mention some examples but i am too old to fight on the internet i guess). ALSO i happen to know some of the artists that release music on Ovnimoon Records (many Greeks also there by the way) and i happen to know that before releasing on Ovnimoon they got rejected by all the main european labels. You can reach your own conclusions based on the facts i am mentioning to you.

And lets be honest which SERIOUS artist can rely and depend on the support of a label that has 60 releases a year? A label must treat and support its artists like a parent treats its children and no parent can provide proper care and support with so many children. Thats why it is 100% sure that we will never hear any news from the majority of the artists that got released by Ovnimoon Records, it reminds me of the full on era in Israel where there were ten labels releasing young kids music which was tottally worthless and thats why these labels closed and these so called artists remained in oblivion.

P.S 1 The same people running Ovnimoon are also running other labels which also release on the same rate as Ovnimoon, so in the end of the month these guys have something like 10 releases out LOL.

P.S 2 And a last hint, all (ok 95% of it) the releases on discogs are either posted by the same guy who is obviously working for the label or the releasing artist himself............          Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

What appeals to some may not often appeal to others. And when people think Simon Pattersons dreadful rmx's of Neelix's tunes is credible psytrance when to me they are utterly dreadful . What hope is there when most people only know outwith the Underground is Neelix.

The simple amount of output to me reeks of lack of quality control & therefore I'd never buy a single track from this label, even risking missing out on possible a good one here or there.           Cuntus Maximus.
