Overpriced (Tsunami) NYC parties

I think it is a shame that there are not more affordable and/or free parties in New York City. I don't understand why people pay 30$ to go to a tsunami party at club Arc, and be subjected to asshole security, overpriced water, no alcohol, and sketchy vibes. Instead they could go to the parties Trip Out NY throws at Boom in Soho, which are 10$ for men 5$ for women, and free before 11pm.
I can understand that it costs money to bring trance DJs/Musicians over to NYC from Europe or Israel. But, I see the problem is that at 30$ dollars a ticket the european/Israeli Dj is not going to be able to draw Americans to the club (who would prefer to spend a saturday afternoon chilling listening to DJs spin trance for free in Astoria Park, Queens). Usually, the DJ ends up spinning for an insular group of Spoiled Euro-trash who take trance music for granted. So the DJ misses out on the opportunity to expand his fan base amongst us Americans.

pisces1979, at the risk of shameless self promotion, i really want to tell you that we are throwing this party at the end of the month, where the security is super "friendly", the party goes to 8 am (more if the owner is satisfied), water is $2 all night! beer pints are $4 all night.... and we are bringing 2 acts, now if u get tix in advanced, its$25.... or if you come with a costume (it is Halloween) its also $25... so what i'm trying to tell you, without talking trash about another org. cause that is not my purpose is that you do have a choice, and we do want to draw the american crowd, we are not making the party in manhattan for that reason, mind you that the best parties (imho) were in brooklyn (dupont) and queens (amazura)... come check us out, you wont be disappointed!

pisces1979, i have thought of many promotional ideas... one was to have $5 off for out of state licences so that we can help people coming from outside nyc. we decided that this is the most we can do at this point. the big diffrence between your beloved boom parties (which are fun and i've played at a few times myself) is the budget... boom parties have virtually zero cost for the planner... that's why he can charge $10. it is simple math, no greedyness invloved. the place is very small, the amount of people is too, i dont need to defend anyone of the big promoters, but their costs are tenfold of boom costs, and i'm sure youll agree. the trance crowd is a tough one, we want everything for free and we want it top quality... for the quality you have to pay, that's how it goes... what does a man who wants a bmw and only has money for a subaru do? remember the old synthetic days? i gladly paid $30 at the door each and every time... satisfaction was guarenteed... i dont go to tsunami parties, i havent for over 2 years... i have my reasons. take a chance and re-live the old days of nyc, the days that are soon to be back.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

"what does a man who wants a bmw and only has money for a subaru do?" -
He buys a BMW from the Mafia.
Seriously though, I have a couple of suggestions to keep costs down...
You can keep the cost of space down, look around the South Bronx, where you can get club space to throw a party for much less $$$$ than in Brooklyn. Or you could throw a party in a VFW, Knights of Columbus hall, or National Guard armory (seriously people have thrown trance parties in those locations).

well francis, please refrain from calling anyone dumb here and you should re-read the guidelines of the forum. the thing pisces1979 is doing here is comparing apples and oranges.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Francis, i think you are thinking about paying 35 Canadian Dollars for a party. If I remember correctly from my last trip to Montreal 1.40 Canadian = 1.00 Dollar American.
Also there is also the question of the length of a party. I would gladly pay 35 dollars for a party that lasted all night to say, 8am... If you shell out 35 dollars for a party that only goes to 4am, and where the bouncers throw a fit if a couple of people smoke some weed in the crowd, and the watery beer costs 10 dollars a cup.
You said "everyone should be able to live from what they love and make respectable moneyt from it ". That is totally understandable, unfortantly the reality is that Trance music is completly unknown to most Americans, and you will never hear Trance on any radio station, and most of the Psy-trance artists and promoters are getting screwed by greedy club owners, who hold a monoply on cabaret liscences in NYC.
Also...I think it's totally cool charging less money for women to get into a club. The average woman makes 70 cents for every dollar a man earns in this country. Also, I'm looking for a serious girlfriend/wife...so having more ladies in the club is a plus for me.

Pisces, Tsunami parties last until 8am. so where is the problem? smoking weed is illegal and they have every right to make a fuss about it, they will not lose their license over some fun loving weed smokers... i agree with any club that enforces that policy.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Surrender, all apologies... when I said "If you shell out 35 dollars for a party that only goes to 4am, and where the bouncers throw a fit if a couple of people smoke some weed in the crowd, and the watery beer costs 10 dollars a cup." I was refering to Clubs in general...not Tsunami parties in particular.
I was just elaborating to our Canadian Comrade "Francis" about how fascist and puritanical American attitudes towards Partying are...as compared compared to the more tolerant attitudes of our freedom loving, hockey playing friends from the north.
