Why leave kick, bass and percussion?!
Improvise your drums, don't let your drums be boring! |

thanks for the tip, mr smarty
in dance music, and i talk about good quality dance music, we dont have lot of drums changes during the track, don't we? that's because it is essencial to use one kick for a track.
moreover, in acoustic music production they all use the same drums for last 100 years! and that's okay also.
please don't tell me there is no rules and we have a lot of possibilities nowadays - everyone understands it.
the topic was about slightly other things.

Iv found it to be completely incurable , 5 years of sporadic music production attempts and all i have is like 5 or 6 finished tracks and countless 2 , 3 mins loops , maybe lack of talent , dunno , fucking frustrating though , labouring for hours on a few bars , getting the drums etc perfect then I get exhausted and bored and it start to sound like shit , then i scrap it and move on to other activities ..

maybe ?! ... are you sure your producing the "right" genre? is psytrance the music you're always listening? are you inspired from another genre from your youth maybe?
i'm producing for 2 years now and have NO music theory knowledge (scales, harmonies ...). every loop is try and error for me but for now(!) it's ok!
but and i'm totally influenced from the Dark Wave scene back in the 80/early 90'ties.
when i was 8 or 9 i started listening to anne clark, sisters of mercy and a lot of punk stuff (exploited, pistols) such stuff. but the reason for me to produce music was def. anne clark stuff and you'll notice i started VERY late
and now ... everytime i start a new track it sounds like anne clarks stuff e.g. )
but then i change the sound to psy style for hours and hours and a lot of very hard work.
so loopitis is "preprogrammed".
and a lot of times i thought to change the genre but psy is the most inspiring sound to me and i want to share my vibes
my decision now is : i'll do my best and will finish my first fullon track next days. if the result is ok i will keep psying ... otherwise i'll produce another style.

dont mean to bring this thread to life but i was reading it and had an idea. i do this in all of my music. you don't have to change ALL elements as pointed out earlier and DO copy and paste. Preserve the original groove and make minor alterations as seen fit. Also have loops of varying length. say one 8 bar melody a 2 bar bassline. also remember that a change needs to occur at the MINIMUM every 16 bars. something that either adds to the energy or takes it away or changes the mood in some way. so every 16 bars use the same loops but go in and tweak them maybe add some more drum hits to increase tension add additional melody notes.
===melody===
when making melody it is often good to break your melody down and only let the listener hear a glimpse of it at first so remove most of the notes. then as the track builds add in more notes and once the melody is the full loop you have created go in and tweak a few things every bar or two.
just a few points i've noticed that i do in my tracks.

I'm nowhere near as bad as I was ... there was a period of three years literally where I didn't finish a tune ....
but IMO ...
there is no such thing as loopitis.
I specialise in writing 3 minute diamonds of pure structure and fidelity.
There is not one single reason to view what I write as less artististically 'complete' than a 7+ minute track ... apart from ego ... re this track will get my name in blue/give me something that someone else thought was good.
well fuck that. What the fuck kind of artist gives a flying fuck about that? I'll tell you - a wannabe sell out.
You are what you are. I'm a better producer than some of the artists I see in blue here (said with maximum objectivity, in all seriousness) ... lots of other non blue artists are too. A few here and there really don't give a fuck like myself. This isn't better or worse - its just what is 'right' for us.
My tracks are finished. Its just they are often (although less than previously) only three minutes long.
Its like criticising a chopin nocturne for not being a full concerto - fucking retarded.
The issue is not that someone cannot consistently write 7+ minute tracks - the issue is that this scene expects it as de riguer - again fucking retarded, and a damning inditment on the skills and track selection of the average psy DJ.
Some of you may be into writing 'perfect' 8, 16, or 32 bar loops. I'm interested!
The problem is not that this is your forte. The problem is that this scene cannot deal with this.

so i have seen the exact same things happen here, so if everyone makes 3 minutes gems, in one sitting? either we connect these 3-3 minutes ones into 1 , or to increase output from 3 minutes to higher, by efficency at work, as in, knowing what you are doing for example, over time you learn 1 vst inside out, so when you want a sound now, you can adjust the settings real quick, hence effecient, which comes over time with experience and attentiveness, increasing your output in one sitting to much longer base tracks of 8-9 minutes even,or you have to maintain your flown from one day to next, how does one do that?say i make 3 minutes of one track today, and tommorow when i sit to make, how do i maintian flow?do i make till a break and next day start after break? how to sustain same state of expression/vibe/energy?,,i have a question about maybe another form of loopitis, what i have seen in myself is, i will use certain sounds again and again in my traks, same sound, maybe because i like it, maybe because i tweeked them properly, whatever, but same sounds i keep putting in different tracks maybe with little variation, why is their this attraction towards these certain sounds?should person stick with certain sound and keep exploring, or switch often?
peace
