its something ive noticed for quite sometime now. u go to an online store, with the exciting expectation of purchasing some fabulous cd u've just read about...take a listen to all the audio clips, get ready to click the shopping trolley and then to your dismay u read the sickening phrase "out of stock", or "not available".

now this has happened a few too many occasions and i'd like to find out why... and its not like i try a couple of weeks later with the hope that they've restocked, it's like certain cd's are no longer available.. this usually happens with releases not from either this year or last year. if u think about it then, i imagine some highly subtle form of music elitism occuring. i just cant get hold of old goodies, less 'popular' artists, not height of fashion releases...

fair enough, im not the oldest greyest guru in this scene, i constantly find out new things on this forum, especially artists ive never heard of. and so i keenly go off to find some audio clips, with the intent to buy whatever 'new' gem <wrong term but old releases i consider new> as ive found out about, but cant get them into that frigging shopping cart.

to be honest im a little frustrated, there is officially no other way i can get such a large selection of trance other than thru online purchasing. shops at this side of the world do not cater for the range of possibilities all those incrediably talented artists overseas offer. there is no other option when diversifying one's music tastes is concerned here, and now im realising online stores aren't being much of a help either...

thoughts? rebuttles?explanations?

What is it that you dont understand? It's quite simple. Out of stock usually mean that the CD/vinyl is no longer available usually because it sold out in the shop and at the label.

There's no difference between a online shop and a physical shop in your town. They sell what's available.

It's finacially utopia to manufacture new copies of most sold out CD's simply because there's not enough buyers. 99% will but new releases - not old re-released CD's.

It is a pityfull situation where the distributions mostly prefer to order new CD over asking for more copies of old one. When I say old I mean 3 months and older. This is very outstanding situation actually, in Rock'n'Roll it doesnt exist, and IMO this makes our music a little cheap form of art that definitely in eyes of some can't stand the test of time.

Bottom line it's all about the money.           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

"IMO this makes our music a little cheap form of art that definitely in eyes of some can't stand the test of time"

agreed. but then again, dance music in general is all about having the "cutting-edge" newest tracks, even if they're not that good.

i have always preferred to play a mix of tracks, from albums both old and new.

i was quite suprised (happily so) by TIP World re-releasing the MOTY albums. i'm hoping they'll follow up with some of the "Colors" comps.

but let's be honest- there is no other underground dance music that constantly represses all the classics. if you're a vinyl DJ, then you know full well how collecting those rare tracks works. some people will wait YEARS to find a single record. i have looked for certain records for that long.

it IS lost revenue for psy labels though. if the label has a BIG back-cat of in-demand CDs, then why not make some money and repress a few?

The point is that the online shops have no control over if a CD is out of stock or not. It's the labels you need to contact and not the shops if you want rare releases. But I bet you got better luck at ebay and similar places
