Of course, I can. What makes you think I don’t have a bazooka of my own?

All the rest of your post does make sense. As a Christian pop hit goes: “My God is an awesome god”. Muslims put it even more laconically: subhanallah (lit. “glory to God”). Nature is bigger, wiser and more resilient than we are; and it has many tricks up its sleeves that we can not even imagine. This is not where I have a disagreement with you.

Saving the Earth may be an arrogant proposition. But saving on your own utility bills is not. You think I made up that example with people walking around in their underwear in an overheated house? No, I know a few of those personally. I also had a neighbor, who ran his lawn sprinklers during thunderstorms. They were on a timer and he did not bother to suspend it during the rains. I also had a coworker, whose morning routine included gathering all the towels in the house and washing them – every single day! Even hotels don’t do that anymore. Should I continue with a list of atrociously dumb things we do, that are absolutely unnecessary?

I don’t advocate self-righteous “progressive” fascism. Just a bit of common sense – on the individual level. Waste and unnecessary pollution are just stupid.

^ I walk around my house in just shorts during the summer because I never turn on my a/c

There's no point to not do what you CAN to try to help with the issue of climate change. Some can do more than others, but tons of people can do a small part, but simply don't.

While saving the earth can sound like an arrogant proposition, to me it's the only one worth making. Something I'm trying to work towards.          http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

I partially agree on that, but its not about which is more profitable, but which will make less losses. Because losses is the only thing we will have: peak oil and climate change together are not so easy to manage even for the elite.

It’s like those Ferengi Rules of Acquisition
Rule # 34: War is good for business
Rule # 35: Peace is good for business
Some people profit both during the booms and during the busts. Sometimes it’s because they are smart. More often it’s because the table is tilted in their favor. Peak oil is not hurting BP and Shell, is it? Turning half of the planet into a desert will not hurt Monsanto that much, will it? And a development company that owns whole towns is not going to suffer when people rush inland after their houses are washed into the ocean. Those companies have owners. Among those owners are major shareholders. They are the ones who make the weather, both figuratively and literally.
