well. the show is on the 15.11.. .. so i'm still waitning
but i'v been to a show of a project called "Desert Blues" last week. and they played some Nubien music, by an artist called Hamza El - Din. that was an amazing show, educative and pleasnt .. they talked about the Nubien's culture and tradition and played some arabic blues.
it was very intersting. apparently, as they said there, the arbs of the Sahara desert(spread from southern Egypt in the east to Muritania in the west) r the inventers of the blues. they've developed by the years some uniqe kind of blues.. that includes only the Oud player and one songman. very intersthing music. i'll try to find info in english so i could explain myself better.
btw : did u ever listen to Orphaned Land's music?

*sigh*
guess whose album i've got in my shelf?
hamza el din: eclipse
it's a soothing album. although i think i haven't "understood it" yet.
the man who introduced to me the wonderful sound of the oud was rabih abou-khalil whome i saw live with his band at a jazz happening here in finland a couple of years a go. it was truly a mesmerizing experience... after that i've listened to other artists too who play the oud but are more modern than hamza el din.
i haven't heard of the band you mentioned.

and about the nubien music : i talked to some old arab who work with me about it, and he said the the nubien's got an insturment looks like a guitar that made from Squash and it called Nub. many many years ago, the Nubiens were called in this name beacuse of that instrument.. (Nub) he said they where like the Gypsys in Europ but in Southern Egypt. they where Nomads who always came with music, and esspecaly the Nub Guitar...
btw: great album hamza el din: eclipse
