link: www.isratrance.com , homepage...
loved the nu album and also the "And then there was Brazil" part, hahahahaha.
I live in Brazil for 25 years and i never went through half those situations Ott got involved in only 3 hours.
I must say he is very very lucky, but should choose bettah his rides from outta festivals...
Almost as lucky as we brazilians, who saw him djing 2 pretty nice sets in one festival (pitty on me.. i saw only one of those..).
My best memory is reaching the chill zone (called "Oca") with my girl, by the time he was supposed to be playing his second set, only to find a "band" setting up on stage. Higher than high (everything was precisely scheduled), i see this slightly-old fellah wearing military clothes, observing by the side of the stage. Thinking he was one of the sound enginners (i was sort of right;) i ask him in portuguese "Não era para o Ott estar tocando agora?" only to find out the guy doesn`t speak portuguese. then i ask again "There is a guy named Ott who was supposed to be playing now... Don't you know when he's gonna play?". Then the guy, with an intriguing face replies "I`M Ott! Don`t you know when I gonna play?".
Hahahaha, he was more lost and surpised than me...
Then we chatted briefly about how impossible it was to achieve one of his CDs in brazil and also about the fact that he was unable to bring his live equipment to the festival.... this guy was on a lucky tide, definetly

That was his take on things.
No reason to get offensive here.

Nice interview. I particularly liked the part where he talks about his studio equipment, and making music that mixes the organic with the inorganic; that blend of juicy electronic bleeping over more 'natural' sounds is probably what I like best about Ott's music personally so it's interesting to read a little of the 'how and why' that goes on behind it. Will look forward to the new album.
@ further - think it was meant as a joke mate.

What’s the most odd thing that has ever happen to you while you’ve been on tour?
I got picked up by a ladyboy in Philadelphia, woke up naked and surrounded by broken glass and Policemen on the floor of a hotel room in Berlin, and sat watching a futuristic Mad Max-style brass band in a forest in Canada, whilst naked men skateboarded around me.
And then there was Brazil.
In Brazil recently I was pinned to the ground by 5 armed men all screaming at me in Portuguese and pointing guns at my head, was passenger in a car which hit a tree and rolled into a ditch at 60 mph, and then found a fully grown tarantula in my sleeping bag – all in the space of 3 hours. |

LOL!! Can anyone beat this? haha... poor Ott
I think this is the man I respect the most in our "psy" scene. Bless him

im sure there are plenty more stories... i remember that when he played in israel and i happend to be in the country for a visit at the time, i had to convince the security that the man standing outside barefoot, with no recognizeable signs of being someone who either paid/played and wanting to get back into the party was infact one of the mainheadliners.... Ott do you remember that?
very good interview btw. "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

When will we see a follow-up to Blumenkraft? Are your next album in the works right now and if so, how would you describe what is growing in your studio?
If I wasn’t sitting here doing this interview, I’d be in my studio working on it right now. The new album is taking shape and I’m having a great time playing with my toys and gradually pulling it all together. I have no idea what i will end up with, but from what I have done so far i know I’ll have a lot of fun getting there. |
|
yay! i had no idea soem new sounds were cooking in OTT's studio.
cheers!

At some point in history, Ott wrote:
It’s about 50/50.
Digital technology is very good at faithfully recording and reproducing sound without colouration – but that is its main weakness too. It can be a little bland and unlovely.
I tend to use the computer for what it is best at – recording sounds and playing them back, and I like to use my more interesting equipment to generate sounds with character.
