Thats realy interesting me .. What is a techno bass ?
Listen .. There is no techno bass , Its all in your mind , In your head . As a Dark , Techtrance and Techno producer im telling u that everything is possible , There is no special bass for nothing , Not for Dark style , Not for fullon , Not for Techno , You creat what you need or want .
For me the bass can be any bass , Its not the bass its what the other tools and elements u put on it to fill him up and make it deep and larg . For your question .. I dont belive with 'other sounds in place of bass' and i tell u why , Because this is the base of the track , So u must find yourself an real hard , Firm , Stable and massive sound for . Try use 2 bass's in your music to creat those feeling 1 in the front (Mix 1X1 with the kik) and other 1 in the backround . For the Techno feeling most of the work done by loops , Hh and prec's thats make all be sound fat , Unique and spacious .

I finally remembered what I heard a few days ago
It was on VA - Mechanical Forest. Track No. 3: The New Dawn Corp. - The Spell.

Actually, now I think it's not a tom but the same kick at a lower velocity...
A bit off-topic: what is this style? The whole album reminds me of this gloomy techno I used to hear in Detroit's Goth clubs. It's not really trance, is it? |

That's definitely psytrance... it's got too many layers and too much reverb to be techno of any stripe
definitely has techno and/or industrial influence though |

that is quite comical hahaha.
is there no such bass as a psy trance bass either?
so theretically in your theory, there is no such thing as a psy trance kickdrum to go in psy trance, or an acid riff to go in acid techno, or a drum and a bass to go in drum and bass?
imo styles of music are defined in this way or maybe i'm not hearing something.

I actually disagree with both of you
There is such a thing as "truth in advertising". If your promotional materials say that your new track "Schizophrenic Vampire" is dark psy - it better not sound like Celine Dion. And your ambient track "Celestial Bliss" better not sound like Nine-Inch Nails.
So, the choice is quite simple: if you claim that your music conforms to some existing style - it should conform.
And if you are breaking the style boundaries (all power to you, BTW! ) - just let people know. You can say something convoluted like "Suomi tech house". Or you can just call it "Violence Disco". It's your own style, afterall
Or, if you want, you can say nothing at all about your style and just write music. I personally prefer when people identify their styles only because I am a noob - I am learning how different styles sound. Otherwise, these labels are unnecessary, IMHO.
If you absolutely have to make a statement and want to be on a safe side - just say your music is progressive.
Seems to work for musicians just as well as for politicians |
