Has anyone experience with using something other than a synth as the bbb part of kbbb? I was thinking of like
- Kick drum filtered differently from the "real" kick drum, maybe reversed or with the beginning chopped off.
- Filtered/enveloped white noise
- Just a modulated sine wave
Haven't really developed this idea, just wondering if anyone has done something similar. |

made some with real bass intrument in the past, can sound good even for kbbb. maybe toms and percussions with a good amount of distortion could work.
lot of sounds that have low end could be used with a bit of luck , just load one in your sampler, loop a cycle of the wavforme where it sound good and you might end with a good bass with some experimentation (like that you could make a bass from a tr 909 snare for example but good for psytrance, not sure... to me real bass is the most obvious choice if you don t want to use a synth) |

I just heard somebody use toms instead of bass a couple of days ago. But now I can not remember what it was: something released or something on SoundCloud or MySpace. I am pretty sure I did not just dream about it... |

Oh there's a group out there that use a live double bass to fill in for the synth bass... Cannot for the life of me remember who they are. |

It was definitely a trance track. Something dark-ish, in fact. I noticed this kttt instead of kbbb in the begining. I don't remember if it continued this way - I think it switched to kbbb later.
Unfortunately, I don't remember what it was. I listened to so many different things (all psy trance) yesterday that my memory is a mess right now. Can you imagine what 5 hours of Astrix alone can do to your brain?..
I discovered psy trance only 3-4 months ago and have been frantically catching up. Overdid it a bit yesterday, though...
Still don't think those toms were a dream. |

I could see it working with toms, but you'd have to envelope it just right.
I have tried using real guitar bass samples before, and it was messy. I didn't try it out long enough to figure out to do with the filter attack. in psy the filter is snappy and opens for a split second when you hit the note - you know this, but with the bass guitar I couldn't figure out what would sound good, because the sound of the strum doesn't. I tried plucking too.
If you guys have heard a good track like that I'd love to hear it.

in techno and house is quite common the use of something else to fill in for the bassline, maybe some chords, shots, other fx etc...
as for psytrance, none comes to mind at the moment, cant remember, but a low sine wave and some modulation would work nicely...

I believe Psyfactor uses a different sounding kick for his bass in a lot of k_bb tracks on his album Aries Madness.
It sounds awesome. |

I swear a lot of minimal techno I hear these days is all floor toms for bass.
Sounds pretty good too. |

Yes, I hear non-bass sort of sounds as a bassline in techno all the time.

yh man in techno there is absolutely no rules what you use for bass. as long as it sounds pounding.
filtered toms, the subbass/ends of kickdrums, gated reverb, even filtered drum loops will all work.
lovin the rumblin techno bass!!!!! haha.
