[Disclaimer: I couldn't figure out where to put this topic... because the Peace Corps is only related to the USA, not related to trance. but I felt like not a lot of people read the Off Topic section from the USA so.. mods you may delete/move, if you so desire]
hey everyone!
My name is Dan and you may remember me from certain events such as the GMSF 06, all the World Bridges (except this year :-( ) and Desiderata (play on the Simpsons [I'm corny I know]).
But anywho, I'm applying to join the Peace Corps, well, in the process of, and I feel like it could be a hippie-ish thing to do, so I was figuring maybe some of my fellow isratrancers have some info or know someone who's done it. I really want to go to the South Pacific; as I just recently read (a lot) up on all of the countries out there, and their beauty, history, and natives. They fascinate me. How we fucked them up in WWII is terrible. and that these people have lived there gen. through gen. is amazing. And so many countries I'm sure (even myself) most Americans will never hear of or know of -- (Samoa, American Samoa, Vanuatu, Tonga, Niue, Fed. States of Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, the Cook Islands, Guam, Fiji, to name a few). The Soloman Islands and the Samoas were recently in the news because of the earthquakes/tsunamis there, so you may remember them. BUT anyways, after my rant.. I have a few questions..
A. Have any of you ever traveled to the South Pacific (Peace Corps or not)? Where did you go? Experiences? Impressions?
B. Have you ever been in the Peace Corps? Where did you go? What did you think? Would you do it again?
C. Has a friend? What did they think?
D. Any other info you have about it would be great.. esp. about applying.
We are so lucky to be born in North America, as we are some of the most privileged people on Earth. And we take it for granted. It's really terrible. And we will never know what it's like to be born in another country. I do it too. This is my chance to see what it feels like and help them out with community projects, get a different perspective on/in life, and show them that America is not like Beverly Hills, 90210 and the Hills.
Thank you! Again, sorry for the Off-topic. But you guys are very similar to me, and I value your opinions and experiences. I'm definitely talking to other volunteers. But you guys would probably share the desire to play Kindzadza and Cosmosis to the natives of the South Pacific, at least once.. just to say you did it and see if they like it, right?? lol. oh, and let me know if I'm the only one who thinks that way.
Thanks with love for my fellow trancers,
Dan |

i've known a couple of people who were in the Peace Corps in South America. They were stationed in very poor and undeveloped areas, and I guess it was pretty rough for them in many ways. You learn how to watch your back there.
No idea about the South Pacific though, could be totally different.
  ..it's just another party.. |
