Ok, im not sure how many people here use CDs when they are Djing or not, but I have a major problem organizing my digital tracks onto cd. I was wondering if anyone else uses mp3s to put on CDs to mix and what is your method. I tried labeling and writing tracks down but i need a system. So i want to know what your system is.

ok.
what i do is make a nice layout like this:
CD NAME (usually compilated by me)
1. artist name . TRACK NAME - comments
2. artist name . TRACK NAME - comments
3. artist name . TRACK NAME - comments
4. and so on...
i have various different sets, so i use different fluorescent markers (they glow very nice in the blacklight so it's easy to reckognise @ a party) to highlight the different types of trance:
yellow = full-on
orange = progressive, housey
green = minimal
blue = psychotic (russian, etc)
on the "comments" field, i have some sort of a code that helps me reckognize what tipe of track it is. "full-on", for instance, is a very poor description.
my code:
----------
elastic - 4x4 bassline, different notes (sesto sento - solaro)
tryphasic - bassline that has a jumpy feeling (kick - 2 notes - kick - 2 notes)
pump - kick + bass + kick + bass, etc
lineal - 4x4 bassline, same note always
psy - wicked acid up n down sounds
funky - nice, groovy track with "special" beats
cartoon - cartoon sounds, hilarious (psykovsky)
tribal - tribal
380ª - heavily saturated track (380 = maximum voltage)
sometimes i also write whatever else thetrack reminds me of, or obvious comments (gms - juice = requiem for a dream)
another good system is to make a "rating ... one "x" for the deeper in the night the track should be played at.
hope this helps. happy dj'ing!

Try this one, I'm using WhereIsIt - ultimate catalog softeware.

For labeling my CDs I use cdRlabel - the best and simplest ever.

After that you can use color watermarks to indent the tracks. Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else. |
