You caint forget about Makoi and Byron though ( I forget what production name they use)...They throw parties with a full wide selection of music great progressive.Most of the outdoor events and the bigger indoor events have a Downtempo room so its not like you dont have a choice.
On the main stage they dont hold back either.

Mak and Byron are playing as Air Sine these days, still lots of proggy with wacky samples. Those guys are legends...saw them at a Hed show not too long ago and they're sounding good!

all in all, it's a good scene up there... Pretty much the very first place outside of California I played live at... and I try to come back there every year. Plus you're close to seattle for some more proggy oriented stuff, and not that far from San Francisco either....
I've heard lots of really heavy music up there in P-Town, but also have been to events where many genre's were represented... I believe last year I played a show up there that had an uptempo stage for psy, a midtempo area that focused more toward the breakbeat end of things, as well as a downtempo area... so in the end people can work together and create really good community events... Hell, I might just live up there once I get over the fact that I don't like the rain...

thats what i thought but ill take the rain over the 12 degree months of winter any day but i guess those arent the only two choices All i gotta say is summer. oregon. yup.

The Portland psytrance scene is incredible and powerful. The music fails to be dark to me most of the time, but maybe i have just been listening to it so long that it sounds beautiful and light to me now.
I will also say that the portland psytrance scene is going through some very major transitions right now, transitions that it has not seen for many many years. I believe the upcoming years are really up to you. I believe the state of things has left portland wide open for change and I believe that there are people who are fully willing and ready to make that change happen. I expect much from some of the newer folks up here like gorilladust and steph and monkey and serena.
I think the years of the 'OH MY GOD, ITS SO DARK' music in portland is over. We are not a bunch of murderous and sad folk, we are heady folk who like psychedelic music, and we like our parties to feel powerful energetically, IF this is dark, so be it.
Have fun man, make portland yours, and KEEP IT WEIRD!!

yeaahhh me too!! been wanting to go for awhile!  been hearing killlerr tunes courtesy of Mr.Squee and Mani! Yummy yummy sounds coming out of Portland! Definitely not 'Dark' but very psychedeliicc & very powerful!

I will probably be moving there, but its gonna be another year or so  Aside from that, seriously looking forward to spending some time in the pacific NW and hopefully turning some more heads on to the forest/finnish vibrations.

I'm from Eugene, played a few events here. I really love the outdoor nights dancing by a huge fire pit out in the middle of the woods. Oregon is beautiful. Lot's of night time forest psy and some good suomi and goa too. Parties are more like gatherings than raves. Not many huge festivals. Everyone is sooper friendly and a little insane. And Eugene is notorious for it's greens.  |
