What's it like out there?
I *might* be moving out there within a year or two, and wanted to get the lowdown on the vibe there, artists/dj's/styles of psy popular there etc.
Fill me in. |

Ze Freaks Of Nature are stationed down there too
So if your into mind-bending psychedelia ---> good choice

If you are into darkpsy, you will probably like it. If you are into other styles, you might find it challenging.

dont listen to what they say eugene is a valid alterative to portland but not if you want more than 4 parties a year hehe but I like to live away so im not so tempted too much work to do at home It seems to me that alot of the darkness and gloom that is assumed about the oregon scene is either not true or begining to find a balance if you look at the flyers when was the last all darkness party in oregon i think The northwest is the next trance mecca in this country it just may take a little time so im actively recruiting weve got it all here desert, mountains, ocean, hot springs, colleges, trees, and a very laid back pace of life. not to mention alot of talent and some of the funnest party goers ive met. Maybe its just this year but all the rain an awful winter stories i heard seem to be all exageration. This winter had a few moments of nasty weather but ill take a week of rain then a month of 45-60 degree weather in january over 4 months of 12-40 degree weather back east. The summers here are as good as they get. So any of you who arent looking to develop condos or start a plywood mill come on in.
dont forget to check out eugene as well.

i have found the family here to be very friendly and from my experience the parties are special and powerful. good bunch of land around here so the out door season is where its at, the winter has been a little slow this year...
while theres not much progressive, er, any, it seems that in teh right setting there is range and more than just "dark" music.
theres a party in seattle, portland, and eugene all on saturday this weekend... and the buzz is starting already for the summer!

Eugene is really kind of its own thing down there -hit and miss- and Seattle for that matter to(excluding Molecular events good Seattle Psy), parties are a bit more on the kidy raver side of things and from my experience has a wider diversity of music styles at peak times. Not to say there is not exceptions to this but even the psyparties have alot of under aged kids running around in very little clothing and lots of candy bracelets.
If you like an "older" crowd and more intentional events Portland is where its at in my opinion.Thats my 2 cent

I'm not into nonstop all dark parties, as I like a curve, but I like a wide variety of stuff, from Russian night stuff (think Deja Vu/Vertigo)and funky darker psy sounds to twisted/tribal proggy stuff, well produced morning trance and old school Goa trance. I'm glad to hear you guys have a good outdoor scene. Not a big fan of indoor parties for the most part. |

Pax,
Oregon psytrance has been strongly branded as "nonstop all dark" for the past several years - heavily influenced by the post-2002 Goa Gil sound.
There is a small community of people who love all dark sounds (and throw killer parties for that genre), but the most of the electronic music community stays isolated from it.
