I think 'brown' was the best album Orbital did. 'Lush' and 'Halcyon and On and On' are two of my favourite tracks.

To be honest, i think tracks like 'Remind' (another favourite) are psy tracks themselves.
I don't think i've ever heard any remixes of Orbital tracks by psy artists but i would be really interested if you find any!
All the best.

Orbital makes psychedelic music as in acid music. No doubt. People tend to forgett this. Same goes for Underworld and a lot of other electronic acts. It may be called acid. But some how, people forget that acid is psychedelic

If I hear a full-on remix to any of Orbital's tracks I'll be very tempted to shake the hands of the guy who did the remix...
... and then stab him in the face.
I like Orbital way too much to let just anyone remix them. Just imagine a GMS remix to Oi!... *shudder*

Agree with you on that - tracks like 'Rez' are incredibly psychedelic. Check out the 'Rez/Cowgirl' remix from the top-notch live album 'Everything, Everything'.

England just knows how to make good acidtrance. .. To be honest. I havent heard most underworld albums. But I'll be sure to check it out. Time to expand my music collection.

Yeah, they have done some good stuff but don’t bother with their early albums.
I have to admit the lead singer's rambling vocals really gets on my tits sometimes but music-wise they have done some great tracks. They also make pretty good chill-out too - tracks like 'Second Hand' and '8-Ball'... very mellow and uplifting.
They even remixed Lush by Orbital (coincidence, eh!):

Before i got into psytrance i used to listen to a lot of British artists... Faithless, Massive Attack, The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, The Orb... all good stuff. Anything electronic really.
Good luck with your expanding!

I have the Blue Album and i can say without a doubt, it is in one of my TOP 10 list. It's brilliant.
And very nice observation about Acid Pants I find this track to be a novelty act if played in the middle of a psytrance set
"You are becoming gods. There is a new master in creation, it's you. Unraveled DNA and in the same time you cultivating bacteria strong enough to kill every living thing. You think you are ready for that much power? You lot. You lot. Sneaky bastards. You are running(?) around science like kids with guns. Creating a new world while the world you got is stinking(?). Hands off, hands off...ahh i'm too lazy to do the whole thing
but YOU LOT gives me the creeps when i listen to that speech. |

Nah i disagree. Dubnobasswithmyheadman is one of my favorite albums but Underworld. I really like Karl's rambling over the music.

Yeah, that was a good album.
When i said the early albums i meant the 80’s stuff before Dubnobasswithmyheadman - that album marked a serious change of style.

I like Karl's vocals on some tracks... just not on others. Sometimes it's like listening to some kind of disturbed, hebephrenic beatnik poet.
To be totally honest i'm not really big on vocals in electronic music... but that's just my personal taste.
Btw, if anyone wants to hear the Underworld sound influencing psytrance - listen to 'Serotonin Sunrise' (the original version) by Man With No Name. Strangely, and despite the vocals, i really liked this track!

Moaner! What a psycho track. If i ever get to pick a soundtrack for a sick thriller flick, the entire track will be playing while the murderer kills his victim and stabs him repeatedly, over and over and over.
Sorry, but that's what this track associates of-some kind of mindless frenzy and i love it. |
