1st orbital live show i visited was in july 1991, in the Melkweg or Milkyway, Amsterdam
no words to describe what an experience this was .. still have the flyer and poster somewhere here .. think the line up was 3 maybe 4 dj's and 5 live acts .. no laptops here .. 13yrs ago -> everything full midi with hardware sequencing and the rest ..
whole stage was completely packed with gear.
Orbital was the last live act, a truely amazing set .. super deep acid and way more spacey than what i knew from the few released tracks of them at that time or what the music on their first album. Especially 'Chime' (which is one of the first 'acidhouse' records i ever bought) was unrecognizably edited and way more hypnotic.
djStika topped off after them with an equally deep yet more headstrong techno set (UR and all that).
Other live sets were Pentatonik and ... grrr .. on the tip of my brain .. will see if i can find that flyer ..
Whole night was like a Synergy event, which i only experienced once, also around that time.
Think i've seen Orbital perform live another seven times, outdoor and indoor.
That first time was really the most trippy, the night as a whole a revolution for my taste in electronics.
Most other performances after that were less deep, yet always eclectic and very symphonic.
True masters imho & always a treat, live

glad to see people enjoyed them as much as I did... were they wearing lights on their heads when you saw them? I saw them in Amsterdam too... (not in the melkweg)... it was an outdoor music fest... huge tents and other forms of semi-roofed sound machines... orbital was the biggest attraction by far. amazing video projections with the show too...

first two times i saw them, no lights .. yet .. but that first time in the Melkweg, i do remember mr. Pentatonik was wearing a flashlight on his head, though ..
also then, the projections were yummy
and outdoor .. hmmm .. could've been pinkpop where also underworld played .. otherwise, maybe at new frontier?
or wassit really outdoor in amsterdam?
then, dancevalley maybe ..
or do u mean actually IN amsterdam?
could be the drum rhythm fest, 5yrs ago.
