On the surface, it sounds like: oh, boo hoo I missed a party. But there's so much more to it. Going to an event outside of your usual scene connects you with a whole other group of people. It opens up an entire network of connectivity. Everyone always talks about the North American 'scene' being small and a huge part of the reason is this acceptance of splitting the scene.
If organizers of the larger festivals put more effort into coordinating, the larger scene on the whole would benefit in ways we can't even begin to quantify (this, obviously isn't as easy as it sounds and there will always be timing conflicts, trust me I'm not totally naive, but the point is valid regardless).
It's not really about people deciding which to go to, it's about blocking off a potential for increasing and strengthening the network which ties the big picture together.

I wanted to a part of both the gatherings as well, but looks like I have no choice ... drive 5 hours to ORb or fly to Cali hmmmmmm

Dear Orb Festival Family & Friends,
Unfortunately, Orb Festival will be on hiatus for 2010.
Although we have been at work preparing for the gathering over the last months, some unexpected events have brought us to the decision to take a break this year. Not to worry our faithful followers though...plans for a 2011 Orb Festival are in full swing!
Festival goers can expect a larger scale, MUCH crispier production beginning in 2011, and continuing bi-annually thereafter.
The Orb Festival Team is confidant that this change will result in the best possible experience for everyone, and provide ample preparation time for the ambitious festival visions we have in mind.
Looking forward and growing upward!

All the best to Orb organizers, we need more larger events in the states like this, maybe one year I'll be able to go.
Someone needs to come though with a Big muti day festi in Colorado soon. Come for the festi stay for the MMJ. LOL
