Let me just start off here with saying, I didn't have a completely terrible time at Orb. I met some wonderful people there that totally made the experience a lot more positive. The vendors were also extremely nice, especially the Jabberwocky booth guy.

Which made me sad to hear from him that he was MUGGED on Friday night from a repeat offender that did the same thing to one of the t-shirt vendors the night before.

Anyways.

I would not have had so much of a problem if there wasn't so much false advertising regarding the whole experience.

From the second we pulled in to get our wristbands I could tell they had organizational issues. They took my proof of purchase for my ticket and my meal plan and almost IMMEDIATELY lost it, like while I was still standing there. Like they actually tried to argue that I didn't have a meal plan, even though about 2 minutes before they looked at my sheet of paper that clearly stated I had one.

But that is minor.

Then we go to wait to be directed to our cabin. This takes about 45 minutes while the guy that is supposed to direct us is just chillin' talking to some chicks and having a beer.

Ok, that is minor.

Then on the way to our cabins I saw the amount of condemned cabins. A little scary. Then they try to stick us in a cabin with literally one wall. What the fuck. We argue our way out and what we get isn't much better but it at least has four walls.

Now this where you could say "hey maaaaaaan y didnt u bring a tent lol?"...which we would have if we didn't think we'd be shilling out $200 for an almost condemned drafty wet tool shed with BLACK MOLD growing on the ceiling. A "newly renovated" one no less. The mattress weren't even the right size that they told us. If we had tents they quality of living there would had been astronomically better.

We bought the parking permit at the front gate for added convenience. Which was a life saver considering our cabin had NO LATCH to lock it with. If we didn't have the car we'd have no safe method of storing our stuff. At one point security berated us for not locking our cabin... even though there was no latch to lock it with. They said to back our car up to the door to seal the cabin. What the fuck.

There is a lot I could say about the meal plans (or lack there of) but it has been all said and done. Any defending of what they did with our money and what they produced is absolutely ridiculous. I only got one meal the entire time, and that's when we literally were 4 feet away from the stand right when it opened.

This is where you could say "zomg u shud have brought food 4 all 4 days wat r u retarded u should have known duh."

Well, guess what. We drove from a distance. Our car was packed to capacity. We brought enough food in our cooler to last us for the times when there would be no meal plan (Thursday etc) and we filled it to capacity. They offered something, we paid for it for convenience considering our travel time, they should have delivered. They had no problem setting up booze stands that I'm sure they had no license for so food shouldn't have been a problem.

We wouldn't have ate if it wasn't for our wonderful neighbors that fed us Saturday and really took us under their wing.

That isn't to say there weren't major skecth people abound.

A big shout out to that loud, obnoxious, old, drunken douchebag that was camped near us. It was pretty awesome of you to wake up everybody around you at 6/7am Friday morning by screaming the word "ASSHOLE" constantly. Also screaming for your dog, which I guess you left in the car when you got arrested on Friday.

You were so trashed that you drunk drove out of the festival, got arrested right outside of the festival, and then our area was subjected to a lot of random checks by security.

What's even worse the Orb security LET HIM BACK IN later that night. We found him passed out on mattress in front of a fire later that night. Then security came by late at night and took down everyone's license plate numbers.

The bathrooms were deplorable, the showers had standing water. Most of the time there were girls past out in the stalls whenever I tried to use the bathroom. I was told by my friend that shit was smeared all over the men's room when he tried to use it.

The lake was CONTAMINATED for fucks sake. No Orb Chill Out lounge, which I was really looking forward to.

I guess you could say I'm being super negative here. You are correct. Such is reality. Especially when I ended up having to go to the ER last night. Vomit, explosive shitting, dizziness, respiratory problems. An infection. A few days after Orb? hmmmmmmm

By the way, what was up with the Black Eye Peas bullshit? Our Serbian neighbors were blasting out music in their boombox that was more consistent, sounded better, and went on longer than what the mainstage produced most of the time.

What the fuck is wrong with people being drunk?

I'm tired of all the alcohol-hating I hear at trance parties.

It's fun getting drunk in the morning at psy festivals. People just gotta be able to hold their liquor better. With anything anyone does at a party you gotta know your limits and control your intakes accordingly, bad stuff can happen regardless of what is in your system.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

if any one gets stomach sickness from a festival, what you described above can be helped by taking graprefruit seed exctract every day.

unclean conditions can lead to djardia...
and G.S.E helps as a preventitive, and to get rid of it...

I forgot to mention -

The deco was pretty awesome. Good looks.

Also, the addition of some hand washing stations was nice even though I always made sure to have sanitizer on me at all times.

I don't know how anybody could say that they didn't see anybody trashed or in some stage of intoxication or spun. I sure did, but actually not as much as I thought I would. I saw some obviously shitfaced staff members with drinks hanging out of a golf cart while driving at top speed once or twice. I saw one girl pass the fuck out at the main stage on Saturday (shortly before lack of fuel or whatever made it close) and it took awhile before they seemed to really attend to her.

~Update~

I filed a paypal dispute for the 3 meal plans we purchased when we got home from Orb and they refunded it, so +10000 points to them. I'm glad they decided to own up to it. It is probably going to take some time for the refund to actually post to my credit card but I'm glad they did this-it definitely restored some of my faith in them. This was the message:
SORRY for the meal plan mess, the food was there but not on time. take the money and have a good year.
See you on the next ORB

That is unless that is all you can dwell on, the negativity...tsk tsk tsk....Your problem I say. Sorry.

I honestly feel sorry for all you people who think the world is ending just because you didn't get your way 110%. IT"S LIFE. Look, shit is going to go wrong or not your way at a festival. It's your attitude that can make it good or bad.

Frankly a lot of your attitudes SUCK! I played there, asked for a meal plan on several occasions and was told I had one for free...That was not the case when I tried to get one, got told to basically go away without ticket...I had to purchase one....Did that ruin my time....NOOOOOOO....I ate DELISH falafel and potato burritoes all weekend...wtf is wrong with that...Yes to all that got scammed with the meal plan, I am sorry...that sucks. But it happens, next time you'll know to COME PREPARED!!!!

But to say the BIGGEST thing that sucked for me. Is the piss poor djing of some of the performers. WTF was that. I was under the impression that this is the BEST OF THE BEST here and nothing else…I heard sooooo many djs that were effing AMATURE at mixing. Most of Thursday and Friday it was bad. I was shocked by this. No names to be mentioned but seriously, you know who you are…You saw me shaking my head when you were looking around mid mix like “Damn I hope they don’t notice this trainwreck real quick”….and you just looked around like you don’t know what happened. PRACTICE PEOPLE. This is Orb, I brought my A game and gave myself 2 gold stars for absolutly ripping shit up….I hope the other djs start practicing, because until you get mixing right, your not a dj, just a hack. My list of people to bring out got real short after listening to some of the mixing. Call it what you want to call it, you sounded like shit, you know who you are. You looked like your ok with that…Well I am not, that doesn’t fly in my book, if you don’t know fundamentals of DJING get the hell off the stage and quit making me cringe with your mixing. I can’t believe more people don’t find this unacceptable. ANY THOUGHTS??????

I am glad to see that Aladdin is recognizing the mess-up, really puts them in a better light in my eyes.

This was my first Orb, and apparently this was vastly better than past years. The few issues we did have will probably be ironed out next year - the fact that they are being receptive to them is huge.

All the negativity aside in this thread, the experience was overall positive and if the remaining issues go away next year Orb will be the best psytrance event on the east coast, if for no other reason than the excellent line up. At least everyone knows what they might have to cope with next year.

I wonder if Echo Lake is really the best place to have it though...
