Since the promoters of this event seem to be on the top of their game lately (hosting a successful monthly event in NYC bringing in such great artists as Illegal Machines, Ghreg on Earth, and Rastaliens); I think that perhaps they will take heed to any type of feedback or constructive critism we could give in regards to the Orb Festival, 2009.

I witnessed quite a few ridiculous mistakes by the promoters last year and I'm sure I am not the only one.

I don't even know the tip of the iceberg, as to what it takes to produce a successful festival; and, kudos to those producers who are willing to take on such an endeavor.

But I have a feeling that these guys are striving to make this year's Orb Festival much better than last year's!

Please use this thread as a Suggestions and/or Complaints list, addressed to the producers of Orb 2009.

Here's my first suggestion:

Please pay more attention to the flow of the lineup, and make sure that there is at least one dark artist for Friday and Saturday night at the main stage.

Past experiences with the lineup:

Egbot vs Lauryn spinning at 9pm???
Mono DJ'ing at 9pm???
Mubali live at midnight on Friday???

Also, please don't just throw names onto the lineup until they are 100% confirmed. Last few years, there have been numerous no-shows and chaos surrounding the lineup and flow of music throughout.

I'm sure that there are others in this community who would be happy to make some other suggestions as well!!!

Cheers to Alladin, and Good Luck!!!

BTW, I hope this thread doesn't turn into a bitch-fest...

Despite all of the minor technical difficulties; I have had a great time at the last two Orb Festivals.

One of the highlights of my summer, for sure!!!

Orb festival 2009!
Wow, nice, I have played in the first 2, and had a really possitive experience both of times.

Not sure will be playing on this one (Hope I will), but I am sure the production will do it's best to improve itself on each year.

I think one of the main elements to work on is getting the line up and time slots worked out better. I can only speak about two years ago as I couldn't attend the 08 rendition. But I recall, the covered stage running on Friday and the main stage running on Saturday alone. It would be great to have two area's of sound, maybe, one more prog oriented, and one more heavy.

I believe two years ago Naked tourist and Atomic Pulse played on a Thursday when no one was there.

I would like to see the big headliners on Friday and Saturday...

Heavy psychedelic sounds like Wizack, Zik, Mubali and the likes probably would best suit the time range of 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Acts I really would love to see (Many that haven't played the east coast):

Derango
Alien Mental
Tamlin
Gappeq
Para halu
RA
Afgin
Chi A.D.
Electrypnose
The Delta
Vibrasphere

I'm sure there will be a bunch of other names but just to get the ball rolling.

It would be great to see a variety of styles, maybe some breaks and dubstep in the earlier evening and late mornings.

Other than that, I expect you to completely warp space time/ solve world hunger and fix the economy.

maybe if you book a deco artist you should have the right equipment for them to set up, also if they arrive 2 days before to set up and there is nothing to set up on or even ladders...nothing...could be a problem, especially if they take days off work.
Also allow them to do their set up the way they picture it as its their creations and made to be set up a certain way, that will prevent things being lost or damaged and make sure it looks alot better in the end.

I don't know if I will go this year, but I want to make a suggestion anyway- PLEASE do not mix chillout stage music with any other music when the trance stage nearby is playing trance. It was really annoying!
Also if you do workshops, plese tell people exactly when and where they are happening.

thank you for your efforts and good luck!

what about
SHIVA CHANDRA,D-TEK, ODISEO,ABOMINATION ?? are they any good to you ? also could be personal taste of music dont you think ?

Past experiences with the lineup:

Egbot vs Lauryn spinning at 9pm???
Mono DJ'ing at 9pm???
Mubali live at midnight on Friday???

as far i remember some of the changes on the dj schedule was due lot of the local djs who were invited to this gathering didnt come on time and day they were supost to, some of them didnt show up at all , so line up had to change with no choice ...

im sure the alladin guys will take care of all the details for this upcoming orb

ps... to alakazam : i would like to see infected mushroom , dali and astrix , what do you think, killer ??
just joking ...

umm... at least in accordance to the night I played at Orb, there wasn't any sort of schedule shuffling. The line up was pretty set ahead of time, and to mention a slight gripe as well, what about Wichdokta at the last Orb festival. He wasn't told what time he was playing ahead of time and didn't even find out until he got there, that he was already supposed to play at an astonishing early Friday evening slot. If proper attention had been paid to what the individuals play and where they were brought from, more locals would have been brought to play opening slots. I don't mind that I had a Friday evening slot, but it would have been nice to maybe switch around at least some of the lineup flow. Having me to Wizack Twizack back to back seemed to be slightly counterproductive. However, that's neither here nor there.

Also, what happened with Shulman's set getting cut short to play some tech house or whatever that was?

line-up was an issue of course- some so jacked up i can't even imagine the promoters knew what kind of music they were booking- some great choices in acts though- i really liked the diverse line-up

don't promote that the camp ground has horse back riding when that was a complete lie

**bathrooms**- ah echo lake has gross bathrooms to begin with but this is important, at least they have flushable ones though- but that is important- making sure they are clog free too- i know this is hard but you may want to invest in a plumber or someone, something- i personally am grossed out by porta potties alone- and echo lake does have flushable toilets- i think clogging would be less if you made sure there was toilet paper in the bathrooms at all times- otherwise people might flush paper towels, this goes for every festival i've ever been to really.

also don't sell the cheapest brand of hotdogs ever with a small bag of chips and a cup of lemonade for 10 dollars and call it a recession special.... that personally was like a slap in the face to everyone in these hard times- whatever- you want to try to sell your hotdogs and lemonade for 10 bucks- even though thats beyond ridiculous- okay fine, but dont call it the recession special, the audacity

Yes...

Please don't insult us by selling bad quality food for exorbitant prices.

Another thing which I didn't understand was the overall waste at the concession stand.

When we left Echo Lake last year on Monday around noon, the concession stand had like 30 full cases of Monster, Sodas, and bottles of water which were left to be pillaged by any remaining trancers.

I understand why they were not purchased...

(because it was like five bucks for a Monster and two bucks for a can of Diet Coke);

but if it meant that much to you to make an extra buck off of the hungry or under-prepared, why would you just leave all of the left-over unsold stock for any stragglers to take home with them?

Please provide such items as a service to festival attendees and perhaps make a small profit while selling things at a reasonable price. If you didn't make your money back in ticket sales, price gouging for concessions is not a good business plan to re-coop the losses.

It just seemed a little ridiculous to sell a crappy hot-dog and can soda for $6, when a private outside vendor was preparing Veggie Quesadillas 100ft down the road for $5...
