Opening a record label! ???

Hello there
im having some serious thoughts about opening my own record label.
is it hard to run? hard work?
what do i need to think of before i consider doing it?
do u have to arrange parties when u are a label-manager? |

First thing I think you need to ask yourself is do I really really have something special to say musically?
This is something that has to be asked by every person wanting to open a label, and especially in trance, where there are so many labels, and most of them sound basically the same, in a few variations.
Also be ready to loose money if you want to release quality music- at least for the first couple of CDs, and untill you have enough of a roster of artists and enough connections to get booking for them (and your cut from it).
Hard work?
Do you want to succeed? Then it's very hard work. But that applies to everything in life.
And no, you don't have to arrange parties.

What music you want to release.
From which artists.
What kind of package you will print.
Mastering.
Many stuff.
Just share with us what you got in your mind and then we shall see whats going on

My guess is you would have to forke out somewhere around 10.000 for a release. Plus the costs of registrations etc...
And then work another 10.000 hours to make it work.

Then honestly I would stay away, unless you have tons of money hire a great team around you, etc...

I guess the 10.000$ was a bit naive, depending on the artist you want this could probably double or even triple.

What are you reasons for wanting to open a label?
If you are doing it to earn cash then in all honesty think again.
Personally i think you should concentrate on your music because every track i have heard from you seems to get better and better.

money is not what im after its really not
what im interested in is the music; cds, trax, artists, studio work, writing about music. i also love the computer ;D hehe
i want to become a label-manager someday because i want to give cool music to the people with style and glamour |

unless you know like 5 unreleased artist and have this whole crew built up with a unique sound i just dont see the point. |
