What a lovely dream.
But you know what they say, most dreams were meant to be dreams.

I wonder how much does such a festival actually cost?

well look at SDF 2003 lineup

then think that they had something like 7000 paying customers

7000 x 90€ = 630 000€

WOW

well i'd say people spent atleast 100€ average at the festival to drinks/food/etc

7000 x 100€ = 700 000€

630 000€ + 700 000€ = 1 330 000€

SHIT!!

so that's a rough estimate on how much money they made..

so what about the costs?

Hallucinogen live = something like 8000 pounds

8000 pounds = about 11 500€

now ofcourse some artists cost less than the others..

say that there were 10 "A class" artists

11 500€ x 10 = 115 000€

say that 10 "B class" artists all have 5000€ fee

5000€ x 10 = 50 000€

now all the dj sets/chill out sets..

let's say it's another 50 000€

so all in all the artist fees were

50 000€ + 50 000€ + 115 000€ = 215 000€

now..

how much could the soundsystem(s) rental cost?

I've got no idea what so ever..

let's say it's

50 000€ for both as together..

so now the expenses are 265 000€

what else?

rental of the place = ??
flight tickets to all the artists = ??
legal stuff = ??
workers = ??

rental could be something like 50 000€
flight tickets to around 30 artists = 15 000€
legal stuff = 1000€ ?
workers = 5000€

so now the expenses are

265 000€ + 50 000€ + 15 000€ + 1000€ + 5000€ = 336 000€

so "they" ended up winning 1 000 000€

can it be possible?

so basicly 3700 visitors would have covered the costs..

i'm assuming they didn't pay any taxes since greece is a 3rd world country (based on the police behaviour and human rights insults)

that's not a good thing to write, paying taxes has nothing to do with being 3rd world country or not, also POLICE IS CRAP just like in most countries, but this is also not a judgement for a 3rd world country... i think you wanted to write smth else and you mistyped..

There is a lot of work that goes into a festival besides paying the artists. People work on it for months - they make much more than $5000 - maybe ten or twenty times as much. Any kind of construction costs a lot, too. The infrastructure also. And when you calculated that total for the food, water, etc - that's not a 100% profit, remember? Much less - though, without rent, probably still a decent profit margin - 50-60%?

Even after all that there's probably still a hefty sum left over. Remember, though - for every big successful festival how many lose money and never return? Throwing parties is always a risk, and a headache. And then, afterwards, if you make any money, everyone thinks you're an asshole. And now, in the US, you can even go to jail if anyone at your party was caught doing drugs. How fair is that?

anyway... an Isratrance party? Could be fun. But is it going to be full-on or progressive???
