One way to get a good crowd

Well, itching to be outdoors and join a gathering, I decided to head to the Nagisa party on Sunday. When I first heard of Nagisa, I imagined me in the middle of a small group of friends, hoping to stay insulated from those thousands of over-tanned, ballcap-wearing, Vuitton-toting Shibuya-types that we on this forum have been complaining about lately. I don't want to sound or be snobbish, but I do prefer to party with more like-minded people. The venue, a parking lot in Odaiba (a sci-fi shopping, amusement, convention, etc. area near central Tokyo) was just way too accessible and convenient to ensure a good crowd, I figured. That I found the party advertised very clearly on the opening page of the main Odaiba website inviting shoppers and other members of the general public etc to "come dance together" didn't improve my image of the party, either. But what the heck - it was only 1000 yen to get in, a day-party (which I like), and I could always leave if I wasn't into it.

Sunday morning, though, was RAINING. At first I was dissappointed. Then I realized that the rain may filter out most or at least some of those who are not "true" trancers. When I arrived midday, sure enough there was only a small crowd. Surely the organizers and other merchants were dissappointed, but I had a blast dancing with friends old and new. I saw only a very few of the Shibuya types. Many great people - great vibe.

So, I thank the rain for bringing only the "hardcore" out. I suppose the fact that it was a day-time party and didn't feature any superstar artists (the music ranged from very bad to quite good, IMO) probably helped keep away "undesirables" too. Nevertheless, from now on when the forecast is for rain, I'm gonna head straight to the party!

hahaha great you had good time there. I was wondering if that happened that kinda hard rain....great !
I understand some of your point and some I dont.
Please do not take this personally and wrong way as we need something to talk about in this Japan section ( we talked this b4 heheh )

I do not judge from how they look, maybe I do by their behavior but also I must have been looked as so as well before hehe. I believe Nagisa is more commercialized at some point but well minded organizers ( Master of VJ ) and they are challenging to prove something very important to public under this circumstance.

My choice for now is staying away from party things and nasty dj competition in Tokyo after I came back from Mexico. I believe it was my right choice as I made it for myself..........

What I am trying to say is, you can not have good parties in Tokyo anymore. More venue are being watched by authority and they are shutting down for stupid local regulation............and of course the competition among organizers.

THE PARTY BECAME MONTHLY EVENTS.......
it is not what we used to had here....always nice trance party.......hehe, even I miss old Vision Quest parties they were the experience to me
are you experienced lately?

shed

i was almost getting off the topic...the one way to get a good crowd is.....to make your own party! it is not that costy by yourself.....

Hey Shed. Thanks for your good comments and good advice. I'm not sure that I understand all of what you said, though, either. Can you expand a little on the following statement. I want to be sure I understand what you said as it seems interesting:

What is it that they are trying to prove?

And the point you made about not judging people by how they look is important. We have to be VERY careful about pre-judging people by how they look. Looks are sometimes a good indicator, but sometimes not. You're right, it's behaviour that counts. And, thankfully, there was mostly good behavior at Nagisa (or I successfully ignored the bad behaviour!).

About not being able to have a good party in Tokyo, well, I have to disagree. Sure, Nagisa was not perfect, but for me it was "great". Maybe I'm too easy to please? I partied with great friends all day in the outdoors in a sci-fi wonderland. If I can't be happy about that then I have problems. I'm not satisfied and I'm always looking for better, but I won't complain about "great".

About "making your own party" as a way of getting a good crowd - you're absolutely right. I dream about doing that. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to be invited to one of your parties someday. hehehe

well maybe I do judge by the look for girls..oops. my previous comment was nothing personal and I do understand what you saying if you have seen the scene here, no doubt. But I was making clear myself under any circumstance it is not good judging/pre-judging ppl.

Also I am not in the position to tell you what they were trying to prove but the organizer must have concept for when he throws party with charging ONLY 1000 yen for admittance, otherwise it is another business model just like others. in fact, we are the human just like to have fun so maybe that was it hehe.

The making party is not that hard work if you could afford the generator ( can rent around 2000yen ), nice pair of speakers ( no need to be that big at all ), amp, petrol, van or car to carry these stuff, cdjs and mixer......and another important thing is a nice dj desk as a point of dj's view ... that is about it and I believe one of your friends give you help for these equips especially cdjs and mixer.

This is the way how parties have begun originally. even last year we made 6-7 outdoor parties in Odaiba like this hehe.

any plans for Kaatisu Party YET?

I totally understand your feelings...here in Portugal is quite the same, but you really can“t only label those kind of people by look, only by mentality and that is what makes it so hard to know if you`re really talking or enjoying yourself with persons who are worth awhile.

It seems nowadays you really have to make a private event to make sure you have clean fun,but that for me takes the fun out of knowing new people...           Be well...

Yes Kurtis , the rain keep the bad crowd far away from that party! I saw some 3 or 4 shibuya gals but maybe even this girls (that could make it to the party) are already "tranced" enough to enjoy with us...
Did u saw UNI playing??? So Fucking good!
What about Mike Maguire?? What a set!
Smiling Crowd! Great Vibe!
No doubt was the best rain I ever took in my life!!!

ps: Tsuyoshi is defenly lost in the guitars.

hmm... sounds like the free party this weekend in Oarai may not be a bad idea, since the weather reports says 50% rain. Dunno about the DJs... anybody know if they're any good?

Hey Kaatisu, I am just laughing at what you wrote...couldn't be more comic and true than that. Comic for the way you decided to go, the range of quality of the music played, the disappointment of the organizers, LOL. And true, because only rain and perhaps a LV sales somewhere else in Tokyo may provide a good party these days...

And more comic than that, was a friend of mine disappointed with last Vision Quest festival...he dubbed it Million Quest. LOL.

Peace and Love.

was worried about nagisa, the rain was so bad.
Well about the crowds, what can we do... nothing much, but maybe some of these gals and guys, are becoming more psy(hopefully) so that they can appreciate the culture not because its the fad.
well i dont know.
But for a organizer, i must say i dont like these crowds, but money is a neccesity to throw parties. Ha... The dilemma....
N e wayz I am organizing a party with a few friends in the summer at a beach, it will be a daytime beach free party so as soon as i close all the stuff will let you guys know.
