I'm getting bored by this too.
I'm setting up a poll/blind test on my website with real life 44khz examples (44/48khz conversions are lossy too).
I will put WAV, FLAC, 320kbps,192kbps,128kbps in three different styles and then everyone can vote and try if he finds out. It should be done by the end of this week. Just have to find the right poll component for voting.

WAV Vs MP3 vs bad sound setup on a party =)

vs. bad sound set up at home vs. bad headphones vs. person's ears not being that good vs. outside noise vs. non acoustically treated room
In the end, it's always best to start from an ideal situation (best sounding format) even though it probably won't be heard in the most ideal setup .

i dont know if wav is better than mp3, but imagine if there is a proof that both have the same quality, or just slightly better or worse?
you guys woudnt sell as much as cd`s, keeping in mind that most of the cd sales are due to dj`s, and maybe some of them buy cds because of the copyright fact, but i belive that the maiority of them buy cds because they belive .wav is better to play at big system. So is better for producers to wav be better than mp3

if you got wavelab just insert a wav and convert it to mp3, insert this as well, check the analyzer and start reducing the bitrate of the mp3, you will see the more you lower the bitrate the more high end will be cutted..
at low volumes you might not take notice of it in 320 bits , maybe even on big pa not really..but since not all djs play 320bit mp3, there is often an AHA effect when a dj stoppes to play and a liveact starts to play where is no compression at all..
just my 2cents..cheers

That is exactly the kind of nonsense talk I want to stop with this test. Take the test, prove that you can hear the 320kbps.
Stop the talk, prove yourselves.
Some DJs do weird things like upconverting 128kbps files to 320kbps or buring 128kbps on a cd then ripping it into 320kbps files. some djs play old music then a new live act comes. some djs go into the red in the mixer then the liveact come with no distortion because fed right.
I've not yet come across ANYONE who could blindely identify a properly converted 320kbps file but 100 of people who say that they can.
Stop the talk, take the test. its so lame what is going on here. the same bla bla over and over but nobody actually is able to prove what he sais.

here again the link to the test directly:
http://www.subconsciousmind.ch/workshops/various/mp3-showdown-hq
interesting how few downloads and how few votes. I personally have tried to hear the difference too. I've listened to the files on everything I have available here from my studio monitoring, to my car, to my kitchen radio, my friends lowcost mid size PA at 110dB, my headphones, my iphone headphone and internal speakers. I can under no circumstances identify the 320kbps. the better the system i can identify the 192kbps SOMETIMES and always the 128kbps. the worse the speakers are the less it matters how it is compressed.
but hey prove me wrong, maybe I'm just unable, take the test.

maybe not fitting the task all the time..often djs go in red yea, thats for sure..but i even noticed it when djs did almost everthing right but didnt use proper compressed mp3`s..they where ripped and of bad quality...

zork, why don't you just download the files, listen, let your fingers from the analyzer! and tell me which file uses which compression.
I bet you have no clue! (I haven't) Cause you are so far mainly talking tech but that doesn't apply in real life. Almost noone can tell a 320 kbps file apart from a wav. so why should anyone care?
