It's hard to say because labels can be good and turn bad ! Or be good to some and bad to others.
My advice would be, get a good advance, the best contract you can, with minimum exclusivity rights granted to the label, and see what happens...
If all goes wrong, well, you still got your advance money and you can move on to another label.
Remember, the sums are generally so small, and the label owners so far away, that you most of the time will have no legal recourse whatsoever if things go bad...
