For sure there have been a few live acts which I've appreciated. One of them was Penta, back in 2001 or 2002 when he was fresh off the boat and still had a mullet. Great humble, innocent vibe and energy.
@Ascension. I'm perhaps overly focused on the music, which is what bugs the shit out of me when I hear an unappealing ego infiltrating it. I'm sensitive like that.

Well, I agree that over doing it on something like glitch effects or filtering can get abrasive if the music doesn't call for it, but saying that what they're doing is a reflection of them having an ego is pretty subjective.
DJs can overdo it on the effects and ruin tracks too- especially those on a laptop with more than just mixer effects. There are plenty of other things a dj can do to ruin a good track too... http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

..though the last life act I've seen was last summer,Star sounds Orchestra & Irina Mihailova ..with one guy from Tangerine Dream or Kraftwerk.. (I forgot to be honest which exactly of this electronic gradfathers but one of ) @ Spiritual Healing .
And this was absolutely awesome.
As they performed I got my most magical moments on this whole weekend.

I saw an artist play live who was great... cute asian one and it was amazing what she did with thos tennis balls onna string
