A couple reasons:

I want to hear the track as it was originally inspired. (presuming the artist was truly inspired and didn't just hack formulas together). That juicy lead sounds perfect the way it was, please don't change it up just for the sake of 'doing something'.

I don't want a guy's ego showing me his over exuberant face expecting me to 'get into it' whenever he turns a knob or tinkle the keyboard. This is cheesy rockstar posing and the last thing I want to see.

The music just doesn't seem as mysterious\otherworldly when you see the wizard behind the curtain manipulating it.

Having no party experience, I am just imagining... I'd probably agree with you. Unless the show itself is spectacular, like J.M. Jarre or Shpongle.

This is how "live" electronic music should be

I can see what you mean but it really depends who the wizard is.

only live electronic gigs I've really enjoyed were Aphex Twin, Frontline Assembly and Mubali live in Japan...

I reckon Hallucinogen, Shpongle, Voice of Cod/Oood n' Elysium would be special as well...

I'd love to go see Psyksvsky next week end do a 5 hour live/dj set but cannot fit the budgets *cry*

Alien Project was the worst, he blew the subs on the outdoor rig n' then refused to help pay the costs for repairs!!

And yes posing in electronic music does look pretty lame, but in genres like Heavy Metal n' rock n roll it suits           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

The reason why I prefer Dj sets (if its a good dj and he/she is allowed to build the set over more than 2 hours) at parties - festivals is a different thing -is a bit different than yours. I dont feel any artists I have seen playing "live" ever managed to put me into a state of trance. Too many people just stand and stare at the people on stage and the music usually have to many breaks and applause which interrupt the journey. I rather let a good Dj take me on a real journey the way the music originally was intended to.           www.beatagency.dk

That's actually one of the other reasons I had and you said it well. Thanks

well somehow the same..actually I always was interested in lifeacts but as I remember I only have fallen into great journeys when a good dj was playing for long.
He even did not need to be a perfect mixer just the vibes were always the responsible blast as well as the positiv setting of course.
I enjoy it often when I hear and realize the real mixing (when it's not 'perfect' like playback) especialy back than when checkin tha pushin' or dippin' (excuse me for bad english) a bit records was kinda hard nice feel' often gave good energy a rise           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

I think there is too much emphasis on watching the artist perform versus hearing the music while enjoying myself.

That being said, I do enjoy a live where I see more wires than humans behind them, even (especially) if the music is wierd.

and when the original music was made live by the artist? Would you like to watch him do it again in front of you, like when he created it? Or you'd prefer a dj to spin the track?           Sérgio Xamanist

The whole watching the dj/complaining about what they are or aren't doing on stage is lame imo. If that's something you focus on, you should try closing your eyes and focusing on the music- that's all that should matter.

I like live sets because I can hear the tracks that artist has released at any time, but I want to hear their interpretation of sounds they've created by doing it live. Inspiration can also be a reflection of what is going on at the time the track is playing at the party so why not see what the artist can do? I don't like going to a party and just hearing a bunch of music I've been listening to myself, I'd rather have something new and unique to the experience of the party itself.          http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Although I enjoy hearing the tracks I love played out on a big rig, by the artists I love, hearing an exteneded mix of that track is often preferable

On the dj watching thing... well what's the deco and visuals for then?

The only Problem that I See in Live sets is the length. Most sets are 1 hour long. To short. Its very frustrating when a very good artist flies over 12 hours to another country just to play 1 hour.

One of main reason I "do visuals" is to slap a huge screen infront of the DJ's ugly face...

Bunch of egotistical wankers who f**ked the scene... (Dj's not musicians that is.)
