I never heard of mastering in 16bar loops, maybe its a wise idea to do each section of their own if there is a need for it.... but this sounds more needed if the mix is bad...

its not cause of the section or cause of the bad mix.. Its cause of the ear which gets easily tired when listening to whole track again and again.. But thats used in one part of mastering and for instance when u got to check average RMS than u have to play whole track..
But no matter mastering or mixing I personally work with loops most of the time cause ableton is loop based..

ok!
i must explain.
when i say mix on fly i dont think mastering on fly, my way of doing things is next, first i choose elements of the track, drums bass lines pads arpegios etc... every single sound in every single channel then i do some pre mastering compression eq paning... next step is mixing(on fly means recording without pressing stop rec) and recording. and then i do final mastering. ola track is done.

I try to mix and get things right as I write parts down as well simply because I have a better idea if that part of the arrangement needs more stuff, or not. Some times its just a matter of turning that main lead up and maybe some delay, some effects sweeping the background and that is it.
Other times there just isn't enough space to fit two lead lines and if I really wanna keep both, I go and automate the filter so that they complement each other, instead of fighting over the same frequency range. So it does take a bit of mixing and tweaking before I move on.
You just have a clearer picture of what is going on in the arrangement.
