I have maybe twenty or so compressor/limiters in my system, and perhaps 5 I've uninstalled due to lack of features (no knee, theres one "one knob" compressor)...
Which compressor plugs do you guys use most, and where in the mix do you usually put them? Specifically, do you use one on every drum track? test them out on every channel to see if it helps the sound per track? how about on the output channel? or when do you know to use a hardware compressor to record? I understand that it does depend on each individual sound, I'm just curious on how much they are used and the collective's experience when making music.

i work with logic, so i use normally the "compressor" or the "multipressor".
also good stuff is the waves C4, but it s a cpu-eater...
i don t use it on every track, depends on the stereoimage and reverb.
i m also still @ beginners level...compression is very heavy stuff...btw, i think that most tracks today are overcompressed...someone has started with that and so the others has do the same if they would get a track which is hearable at the floor...
-i use compression if i need more "volume" or to get a certain "pump-effect".
the hole track i put into the t-racks, a easy to use mastering compressor/limiter/eq.
hope i could help...

The one that comes with SX is pretty useful it includes Limiter and Gate also.
The Waves C4 is good but it's CPU eater, like Medirium mentioned.

i think the usage of compression is a very variable thing and depends on the own taste..
i prefer compression-groups like one for the fx-sounds and one for the percussions, one for the pads for example...
try to find out whats ur own usage style
in my opinion the right compression-selection is often they way for the perfect mix...
