The only reason I started this thread is bcoz It is far easier to learn from a lecturer than from a book. A lecturer can present material in a way that teaches you a lot about relevant subjects that are not officially being taught,Whereas a book only teaches u linearly, along with the text thread.
The value in teaching people by example is that they pick up a lot of auxiliary surprising knowledge which they didnt even know they should have asked about.
I in no way insulted u Colin.
And this is what the "be yourself" and "dont copy x" removes. Its like a religious answer to Y we exist. Coz God made us. e.g.
An answer that satisfies the question no doubt, but also a useless answer that has no value in increasing our understanding of anything. A brutal fact.
And this is bad simply coz it wastes time and also irritates people who dont like to waste time.
Y be selfish with knowledge, what are u competing for? mp3 download demographics? I just do music coz it gives me peace. Y not help some1 do that? |

I think that most beginners don't understand and get frustrated when you tell them not to copy others, until they've gone on a serious mission to learn more and eventually finding the right/their own ways to sound better and better and thereby forming their own unique style , only then they will understand the meaning of this. I reckon OOOD's way of teaching sounds pretty much spot on!!! |

If this is simply a question of not wanting to reveal trade secrets, I wish people would b honest and say "Im not gonna tell u that coz its a trade secret" not "be yourself".

But you and me both know, this thread isn't going to change the problem...
So I suggest to concentrate on the positive energies.
