After spending what seems like hours rearranging a track I was working on, including moving audio and midi parts and their associated automation, I found this in the Cubase manual.
Cut-Time
When working with selection ranges, you can either use Cut, Copy
and Paste on the Edit menu, or use the functions “Cut Time” and
“Paste Time” on the Range submenu on the Edit menu.
Cut Time
Cuts out the selection range and moves it to the Clipboard.
Events to the right of the removed range are moved to the left
to fill out the gap.
I am sooo glad I found this in my manual.
Hope this helps someone.
Cheers,

Easy. Use ctrl+left click to select the part you want to move in the playlist. Then ctrl+x to cut all the stuff playing there, ctrl+del to remove the "empty space" and then ctrl+v to paste the parts you cut anywhere you like.
Cheers!
