Creative Space proudly presents the new project of australian electronic music pioneer Ollie Olsen.
I Am The Server is an adventure through dark corridors, with minimal beats and haunting soundscapes, mixing analog warmth with metalic digital sound design. The album consists of six long tracks, but could easily be considered as one 54 minute head-cleansing epic, where Olsen dares to take the listener to the far ends of human(?) consciousness.
The music incorporates elements from ambient drones , dsp heavy sound designing,noise and even a hint of techno. There is an obvious human element throughout the album, even though the composition is full of futuristic scenes and artificial dystopias, perhaps I Am The Server is the point where man meets the machine or actually where the machine learns to think as a man.
Ollie Olsen, composer, synthesist and sound designer, has been producing electronic and experimental music in Australia for the past thirty years.
Some Recent collaborations and projects include performing with Negativland (from USA-2001); worked on the electronic component of Australian composer
Richard Mills' opera, Batavia (2001); guest soloist with the Australian Art Orchestra (2002); recorded with Japanese bands, BOREDOMS and AOA (2001-2002); composed sound for Andrew Gartons D3 installation at ACMI (2003); performed five shows as part of Damo Suzuki's Network (2004 2005); contributed special effects sound design for Zhang Yimous film House of Flying Daggers (2004). Ollie is currently working on a number of recording projects, mostly electro-acoustic pieces for performance and release in 2006 . The electro-acoustic work "SIMULATED" has just been completed and awaits release from Creative Space at the present.

got it in the mail today!
sounds very much like ollie olsen (ofcourse).
maybe one could describe it as shaolin wooden men going dark ambient
the album consists of 6 tracks and starts with a rather aggressive mood which some how reminds me of speedy j's excellent "a shocking hobby" album. tracks 3 and 4 are a tad more chilled (although i would call the track prometheus rather sysiphus ) but that's just a short breather before the grand ending starting with the most shaolin wooden men-style track of the album and finally ending with the noise attack of ~/square. this is not the cd for a nice sunday chillout strolling through the park with your headphones on (atleast not for me) but more an experimental and darker approach of sonic scapes for times when you think life around you is too fucking happy.
there are some issues concerning the mixing of ollie olsen that i (still) don't under-stand but since i don't see myself as an expert on mixing or sound designing i just stop right here .
the cover art (or rather design) by maro kassoti fits olsen's music perfectly.
friends of shaolin wooden men, noise/dark
ambient and challenging music: this is an album you've been waiting for!
