Well, apart from Psytrance and Chill, I've always been a fan of the older prog/psy bands. In fact, I think that most of todays synth music owes its existence to these guys (together with some other influences)...
I know that many of you think alike, so please share your gems, will ya ? I've made a short list of the trippiest "Old" music I've enjoyed and chilled with over the time. (Ofcourse, there's no music that's old) So...
> Pink Floyd "Piper at the Gates of Dawn"
> Pink Floyd "A saucerful of secrets"
> Gong "You"
> Eloy "Ocean"
> Faust "IV"
> Camel "Moonmadness"
> Camel "Snow goose"
> Hawkwind "Warrior on the edge of time"
> Poppol Vuh "Affenstunde"
> Amon Duul ..ehm lots of them, both the Uk and German line ups
> Tangerine Dream "Alpha Centauri" ...AKA the first electronic space album in history
> Brian Eno "Another Green World"
> Can "Tago Mago"
> Can "Ege Bamyasi"
> Ash Ra Temple "Ash Ra Temple"
> Kraan "Andy Nogger"
That's the good -very- old days list...As for the new era of progressive and psychedelic synth rock I would propose the following...
> Ozric Tentacles ...ehm everything I guess
> Porcupine Tree "The sky moves sideways", "Up The Downstair", "Voyage 34", "Signify", "On the sunday of life" and a small dose of "Stupid dream"
> Omnia Opera "Red Shift"
> Electric Orange "Cyberdelic"
> Liberation Thru' Hearing "Liberation Thru' Hearing "
> Treatment "Cipher Caput"
plus the ones who don't come up at the moment... awaiting ur additions/comments!

off the top of my head, i would add king crimson - in the court of the crimson king
gong - camembert electrique
elp - brain salad surgery (in small doses too)
yes - fragile, close to the edge
pf - wish you were here
not too familiar with the newer prog
Load Universe into Cannon. Aim at Brain. Fire.

Yeah, King Crimson, Genesis and Jethro Tull, were mysteriously missing from the list...
Elp as well. I also like yes, but they're not that spacey/electronic influenced. Great symphonic orchestrations though...I've got a couple of vinyls from them, and I love the covers....

(yeah Jethro Tull's thick as a brick is a master piece) adding to all the one mentioned above:
- Renaissance (Ashes are burning, prologue, etc), for those of you who liked nothing lasts...
- Some of the Deep Purple (child in time)
