You're totally missing the point here!
As I've said previously: there's a good reason this instruments are used a lot. It's not because everyone is trying to sound like everyone else, nor does your opinion on what's released by some labels even remotely relevant to this discussion.
You're talking about instruments, not what people consume on parties you attend to. There is a difference.
If you talk about less subjective stuff, like timbre for example. Or wave shapes. You can pick up an analyzer and see what's happening with VB-1, and maybe that will clear out things for you much more then random subjective talk. VB-1 has a very peculiar wave form, in that it seems to display two sawtooth waves, one of them tuned an octave bellow, like a sub oscillator, but mixed very quiet in comparison to the main contour of the wave, and perfectly synced.
There's also something about it's attack and release, again, you can check that with an oscilloscope. Then there's more subjective stuff that you need to learn to listen to, good monitoring helps, as does years of experience with this kind of sounds. VB-1 has a way of developing the bass frequencies that sounds different from most instruments, not really easy to do with another synthesizer.
It's a very subtle difference, but one that is useful because it's easy to pick this raw sound and make it sound as you wish.
Transient shapers or compressors will only affect volume. And VB-1 has a very clear and loud plucky sound - aka as annoying click and scratchy noise - that extends very far in the frequency spectrum. That is, in fact, part of VB-1 sound, isn't it?
Volume is just a small part of a sound, more important then that is timbre! You can even try to draw the same wave you see on the oscilloscope on an instrument that allows you to do that, or even sample a cycle and place on a sampler or instrument that can reproduce this cycle in a limited-range oscillator (aliasing free) like Rapture, and even with multi stage envelopes, you'd still have a very hard time reproducing the exact same sound. I know it because I'm geek enough to run this kind of tests myself.
What matters the most is this raw sound and it's content. All this little things and the uniqueness, subtle yes, but with enough material to work with, the rest of it is post processing: aka EQ + Compression, yes?
Let's continue:
if you've synthesized the sound yourself, you've set the filter envelope amount, so it opens as much as you wish, and takes as long as you wish to do so and then come back to initial position, right? you also control the amp envelope, so why on earth would you have to tame down the transient?
I tell you more: if you compare your raw sound in a synthesizer with VB-1's raw sound, before any sort of processing, you're not to far off from a great sounding psy bass patch at all!
have you listened to it? just that raw sound! is is outdated? perhaps over used? dude! it's just some fucking sawtoothish sound. period. it's got some nice nuances to it that some people find useful, but that's it.
it's like accusing marble of being a bad sculpture before anyone's ever touched it. it's raw material!
yes it looks old, yes it's even sort of old - not as much as some classic hardware, but ok. does it sound bad? probably if you're expecting to year some plucked bass like you would with Kontakt's rompler instruments, yeah, but like it happened with TB-303, turns out this is actually useful for other people. It's even free, so why complain?

Thanks for your opinion. But, you are wrong. Neither was your post constructive, nor informative, you are just plain trolling and picking with the kind souls here.
So, why don't you go buy some more presets ( http://forum.isratrance.com/kaivoo-granular-physical-modelling/ ) and be "original" just as you are that way? And, while you are up, go get me some coffee!
Now, maybe you cant do anything with VB1, but it really doesn't mean the plugin isn't any good, all the blame is on the person using it not the tool.
Also, you gotta learn how to cooperate and behave in public.
So, as I already asked you before mister all mighty PsyTriYe, show us your tunes and master psy wizard knowledge to back up all your statements, let us know all your hits and tricks, and why you are holier than thou, and specially, why your opinion matters! Because until now, the way you speak to us actually removes all the credibility you have, even if you are saying something that is true.
