m8 seriously....
all you need is a standard synth with a transient master.. just turn the attack of it down then ul get similar.. this is such a hype... just like cronox 2 was back in the day... HYPE |

hmm i have alien 303,psytrance bass x1 ultrabass etc.. but one the best darkpsy bass i have heard was made by vb1 old and qudrafuzz, and oxfords dynamics. another reason is that i am a beginner and there is no tutorials on for me on the new trend stuff so that is why |

ok man... dig deep tho you can find better, dont just stick to what others did, reclaim your own shit rather than followin trend, ul learn faster
its an attack thing with vb1.. at those high tempos there not snappy, which is why vb1 worked at those speeds, it has no envelopes... so in theory , you can do it using volume fades with a normal synth, atleast then you hav more options if u wanted more options... just sayin..
as for quadrafuzz... the character is given from the bands being split into 3.... its a phasing effect that most multiband comps can achieve that are not linear,,, if u have waves, the c6 comp or ll3 multi does the same effect.... nuthin special.. just odd character from bands split.....
waves xsplit can achieve this also....
it has to b tweaked carfully tho as you dont want the whole thing in stereo.. its the thick quadra like character it gives which makes it usable imo
but if 2bh with you quadrafuzz muddys shit up and i have to eq certain added toned that ring .
sonnox dynamics .. what part of sonnox dynamics? the gate? the comp?the eq?the limiter?the warmth?

Hmm I tend to disagree, yeah it has been used a lot in the past but you can still be fresh with it.. and it's only been like 15, 20 years, not much actually. It's like saying if you take and old guitar and an old amp, and you'll sound outdated, which is far from the truth. The truth is, it doesn't matter what you do, if you use A or B or if you design your wave by hand, it's what you do with and to it that counts
Just like you said previously, it's just a "standard synth with a transient master"
But, IMHO, what makes a sound sound old is more about the mix than the actual sounds.

You've got some research and downloaded a bunch of stuff, but that wont make you a pro neither will you sound like one: again, it's what you do with it.
For example, I use Ableton Operator for my bass, just because it's what's available and handy and it just does the job - it all depends on how you program the synth. If you get it right from the start, you wont need anything else.

no i sed , get a standard synth and a transient master or shaper to tame the attack to make it sound like vb1.. wiv a lil pulse added. and yeh true, its not the size that counts its what you do with it ,,,lol

you can get good bass with almost any subtractive synthesizer in the planet.
but bare in mind that stuff like cronox 2 and vb-1 have been used - and are still used a lot - by people who have access to other instruments and perfectly able of programming just about any of them to make a good sounding patch.
so it's not really about being good at programming synthesizers, there's some uniqueness to each one of them.
vb-1 actually does have envelopes, you get the release from the plug-in window, and if you look for the editable parameters through automation, there's a decay parameter in there. it's got a very prominent click, and that's the attack portion of the sound, so I think it's got a well defined attack.
I've also enjoyed the sound I got from cronox 2 when I got to spend some time on a pc with cubase last year.
there's a whole range of factors that make up a sound. not just the instrument's parameters available or specs, but the actual curves of the envelopes (editable or not), the wave shapes, how the filter affects the sound, so forth and so on.
what I mean is, that annoying click on vb-1 or ES-1 for that matter when it's raw, can actually be a bless when you start mixing the bass sound with the rest of the mix and this little nuances, become more apparent with post processing. I think both ES-1, ES-2, vb-1, cronox 2, etc, still hold their value as being great for this particular kind of sound, but will take you nowhere if you don't know what you're doing. but there's a reason so many people like them! |
