Hey everyone!
I have a strange condition.
The more i listen to older psychedelic trance (pre-1999ish), the more i tend to like it!
I still like a lot of new stuff... but it's like a discovery for me!
I never really listened to all this old stuff and really focused on the newer CDs that were coming out. But the more i listen to older stuff, the more i realize that I just like it better for some reason!
Is there a term for this? Is this common? To me, it just seems that there is less bass, and it may be slightly slower, but the melodies seem more obvious, and not just a way to mask the beats...
It's hard to explain and I hope y'all can enlighten me!
Thanks
David |

Hey Riton,
Its strange, but im in the same boat as you.
Recently, ive been listening to all the old skool Goa albums like Cali Sunshine, Prana, Lotus Omega, Jorg,Miranda,MWNN and Shidapo albums.
I feel more intense when im listenin to these albums than the V.A's gettin churned out every 10 mins.
I think this happens when u tend to delve into the spiritual side of psychedelic trance. Atleast thats what i believe. These old trax just give me a big smile.

Yeah man!
I feel like when i hear the rumbling bass of the new tracks, I can only really enjoy it when i'm at a party in the mood and stuff...
but the old tracks seem less... intense... kind of...
it's really hard to explain isn't it? |

hehe of course, that's the best
I came across the "Distance to Goa" and "Destination Goa" compilations (many volumes of each) and the older ones kick ass! |

Nice one guys, welcome to the glory years!
Now all we need is to get the artists to stop showing off their production skills and write some decent music with subtler sounds, and break out of the niche we're in now (imho). |

Ion - Ionized (Harmonia Records) is a good example for me that has old school styles as well as funky modern instriments. Go give that a listen.

now and again something comes up on the ipod and i'm like "wow! this is fresh! genuine energy, real balls, good hooks -- man this is amazing!!"
then i check and see it's something off The Growly Family or Beyond Colour (usually)

Yeah the old stuff is pretty amazing, the only thing I find reasonabaly close it today's down tempo/chill releases... a lot of the new stuff carries energy and trippy sounds and I love it all, but just not the spaced out feelings of the older styles, this is where my other fav styles like Aphex Twin and Nine Inch Nails, Front 242 and Frontline Assembly stuff fills the void, they push the boundaries of electronic music further than andy psytrance producer around... (not meaning to insult anyone but....) |
