Ok im a long time pc user and everyone i know is the same. Now i know that mac's had an advantage over pc's a few years back but do you think they still do. I know mac's in the graphics business are the industry standard only because of their great printing abilities i think, but do you think that theres things that you couldnt get or do on a pc that you could on a mac??? and musiclly speaking too would you switch to a mac from a pc if you could, if you could get all the software you have now on te pc on the mac platform and everything??? would you do it and why?? |

2day you have pretty powerfull PC computers , So if your asking for power you can have it with PC's (and pay about 1/2 less.. .) BUT still get in the packge the WINDOWS OS > which alot of ppl say is a crap OS SYSTEM >> however in the MAC world things are different , first the OS is the best thing man can ask (and we're in 30 days from the OS X (www.apple.com > os X) its all very simple ! compared to the windows (and still you can use a virtual PC pgm )
about power its "uncompareble" in some casess like a dual processors 533mhz motorola CPU chip - which was shown in some tests that its basicaly preforms at a dubble speed like the pentum chips ! SO a 533 dual processor VS 1000 amd/ pentum >>> mmmm
wana more power ? look at this ! www.xtrem.com G4 1200mhz MONSTER computer !! good luck

Mac and PC shouldn't be compared because it's not the same religion...
PC is price and audiowarez (let's face the truth) Mac Os is reliability but expensiveness
My dad is not Bill G. and i don't have any Microsoft shares but i think Mac Os can't be compared to Windows because the Mac hardware is perfectly fitted for the OS whereas in PC you can buy 10000 kind of CPu, 10000 kind of video cards, 10000 kind of motherboards, same for sound, ram, various CD/HD drives etc etc.
Mac OS will appear soon on PC...this time if Mac OS is better i'll really admit Microsoft fooled us.

I have a question -
Is there a possibility that MAC and the PC will work together?
I mean not connected coz their operating systems are way different but is there any format that they both can use so u can take a wave from one of them, and get the other to read it and this way to get the best of both - the speed and quality of the MAC system and the heeps of software the PC has.

alo yuli yes , with "CARTIS RESHET"(ethernet card i belive ) you wont have a problem with the 2 OS's > actually you can sync the 2 beasts 2gather >> say CUBASE and NUANDO , you can swap files with a great speed also , why?> some 5 albums contract by warner brothers YULI >>> :) hehe
BTW: i say it again ! your(well not your yuli) PC can get faster resolts in some situations ! new PC have 133 bus speed ,alike mine that use 100 bus speed new G4 use 133mhz bus too , the only BIG difference between a MAC & a PC is the FACT that PC's have a lot more programs to offer then on a mac OS , but you know what they say : WE RELEASE FIRST ON A PC TO GET ALL THE KIDS PLAY AND AFTER THIS TEST WE RELEASE IT UNDER MAC OS . hahahah
ciao

I have 2 PCs and 1 Mac.
You can get amazing mac software(z), just a little bit more effort (unless you already have connections)
PCs inherently have poor midi timing. If you listen closely, you can hear subtle burps and stalls in the sequence (especially obvious with bass drums or the metronome) I have a 700mhz PIII with 256 mb RAM and _it STILL has bad midi timing_ this is inherent, not in the x86 architecture, but in calls from the Micropoop OS which is not designed as a true multimedia OS. BeOS, which is available for x86 is however, and has excellent, almost perfect (better than mac) midi timing. Emagic and Steinberg were so excited by BeOS that they were going to release versions of Logic and Cubase for it (however, not enough people ended up using it as their main OS, so they thought it might not be profitable). So anyways, Windoze constantly has things going on in the background which take up cpu cycles and ultimately make for unstable midi timing no matter what you do. Mac IS better noticably. but stillllllll not perfect. Mac OSX is built on a FreeBSD (Unix-like) OS, and has isolated programs (therefore ideal for midi/audio timing), BUT ..... BUT ..... the problem is, OSXers will not benefit from this until Steinborg come out with a native OSX Cubase 6 !!!!!!! because, of course, VST5 will run in the OSX oldmacOS emulator! soooo .... in the meantime steinborg have aknowledged the major problem with windows and the less major problem with mac and have come out with LTB (sounds like something yuli might like for lunch! ;) ) or Linear Time Base midi timing in Cubase 5.... _//however_, you really need to buy their hardware 8in/8out midi(ex?) USB midi interface with LTB syncing to fully benefit from it you see.... because how it works is it does the main midi clock FROM the midi interface hardware !!!! so you get rock solid timing (apparently,, will believe it when i see it though)
anyways.... on the Mac vs. PC debate.. I have a sad note for all...... MICROSOFT OWNS half of Apples shares..... therefore they have complete control of what steve jobs can do!!!! Why the #$@! do you think MS Internet Explorer is bundled with the OS!!!???? and not Netscape??? This happened about 3 years or so ago.. right before Apple/Mac stopped licensing clones to be made. and the next version of the MacOS had MS-ie bundled.. coincidence???? and MacOSX, as wonderful as it is, is really the death blow to MacOS by mr.gatez. mac will become the "linux" arm of microsoft to "defend" against the upcoming open-source revolution.
sorry to burst the bubble. but i had to do it.

mmmm good points Êshaktiman , however if your looking for a best midi timing , just get an old atari (2 meg version :) ) dont know why this old CPU stll gets the no' 1 on the midi timing Êtests , SO maybe Êafter the upcoming NU miditiming features , all the new midi boxes will BE close to the old ATARI (maybe better a bit ) .., Ê also i think with new cacao CODE that OSX will be writen we will get even BETTER OS > in terms of real timing responses , AND as i see with all the INDUSTRY STANDARD wanabe companies :) they will release they're OSX versions in no time Êalike THA indusrty companies : digidesign , which will take ther time because with the NEW OSX Êwe will get A FULL DUAL PROCESSORS from the corebase , btw : they're not only got a full OSX version on there LABS , BUT i'm sure they're have a full working PRO-TOOLS OSX , CUBASE 6 , DIGITAL PREFORMER ,LOGIC 5 etc
where exactly have you heard that gates has shares on apple ? bomski |

Sandman: This was on the front pages of newspapers 3-4 or so years ago when it happened. Then no one has been talking much about it anymore.
Yeah atari st's have decent midi timing, but then you don't have any of the nice VST audio/instruments/effects to play with :(
another reason why macs are better for music is cause mac notebooks are standardized, so you can be sure that audio software will work on them, with pc notebooks, you really have to do your research to make sure you get one that works with no conflicts... |

to sandman shaktiman is right- william bill gates had bought alot of shares@apple and in that way he forced jobbs and all the other shmacks@apple to add the IE into their macOS. apple were allmost a dead company and before that they even wanted to replace the original macOS with a new system (BEos).
BTW a question- if the new MACosX is based on freeBSD can we install it on PC`s??? if anyone here knows the answer. |

I think Atari can b good u also can play some Pac Man or Space Invaders ;-)
Sometimes, when my !@#@#%#$$&^ PC looks like the gibberish I wrote down I wish to go back to my Amiga 500 or even to the Commodore 64 and make weird noises through assembler sys commands...
Long live Billy |
