or the shape of the universe before the big bang?
or nothing of the above?
and what is its meaning in psychedelic trance?

Ohm is a chant that is said to reach the Gods. It is said that Ohm is the only sound that traverses all space and time when said right.
Try it when you are at peace with yourself, when nothing distracts you, say it out loud and you will know what I mean.
As for the sign, Im not sure but it is very similar to the sanskrit letter for the sound 'OOOOO'

meaning in psy trance? Im sure there will be a 1000 people who will try to convince you there is a relation between Ohm and psy. If you want to, you can relate even George Bush to Ohm somehow.
The long shot is that Shiva danced the 'Tandav' in trance. Psy is the music of trance and euphoria. Ohm is the chant used to reach Shiva. hence Ohm is connected to psy trance.

Acually it's Aum, it's a hindu syllable with a lot of mystical and mythical implications.
Go to google and search- you'll find a lot of explanations, some scientific, some from the point of view of hindu believers (and there are a lot of different kinds).
As many Hindu symbols/characteristics it became also a symbol for trancers, with the important place India had in the trance community development.

Ohm is one word that contains all the vibrations in the universe.
try saying Ohm... it signifies complete breathing.
hence chanting Ohm helps u concentrate on your breathing which inturn helps u realise one comman deed amongst all... we all breath we are the part of a single organism.
Ohm the sign is how its written in Sanskrit.
you could also say:
Ohm- Namha- Shivayah

When god had the thought projection of creation in his mind, said OHM and then everything started to begin.
The connection with music is that OHM as the mantra
cosmic sound syllabe word of all mantras together in one and so all sounds includes OHM .
Psy-trance have so many different sounds and OHM is well good related with.
christianity have AMEN almost the same with OHM.

Well, for me it certainly has psychedelic connotations. The first time I saw that symbol was on my first... uh.. well, it was a little square of paper (my first ever). That's where I saw it, and it's meant a lot to me ever since. I even tattooed it on myself with a sewing needle. And that was years before I was introduced to psy trance. I guess symbols take on whatever meaning we want them to have. |
