Hi,

I just installed Logic platinum 5.5 because I want to steal some samples from ES1.

Oh my god, that program isn't made for me...

Ok I figured out how to open ES1 and play it but there are two things I just don't find out:

1: How can I turn off score editor (I want to enter notes as little boxes not the "musicians way")

2: How can I export audio?

Thats so basic, but I just haven't the nerves to figure it out, since it already took me an hour to have ES1 and audio running....           Most of my music for you to download at:

Thanks for the help...

Earlier automation in cubase wasn't good indeed, but thats obsolete now.

My current experience with logic just justifys even more why I'm using cubase and not logic (besides I'm a PC user)....

I don't know how the newer Logics are, I'm sure they are pretty good and makes it all a matter of taste.

But if I look at cubase SX3 or 4 and compare it with logic 5.5 there is absolutely no reason why I should bother with logic.

After all the workflow is very different, and I believe it's really mostly up to personal preferences.
I would rather change to sonar then to logic... logic is certainly the last on my list, even after reason... now even more than ever.           Most of my music for you to download at:

I think you can access the matrix editor as you can the score editor, but first you must go to options>preferences>global. There should be an option that says something like double click access's matrix editor. After this a simple double click on a midi sequence activates the matrix editor.

Took me ages to find that out.

I've recently been advised against using logic 5.5 as if you ever do a full mix and bounce it down it's always going to sound a bit lifeless due to the way in which it codes to audio.

Cubase is meant to sound better and ableton even nicer than that.

But yes... the ES-1 rules

OTT said it a little while ago on psy-forum.co.uk. There's a whole little bit about it. Now I'm not really good enough in the ear to tell the difference myself but I trust a man of experience.

actually i have read the guy from specrasonics argue that different DAW engines render different also, he said digital performer renders the best. i really would not worry about it though, the only one's that seem to be able to hear this are the ones with the most refined ears around.

my experience with "il"logics workflow was pretty much the same.. i think its just so different from sx, once your use to sx it seems absurd.

I prefer going into the global prefs and changing the "double click opens in matrix" button so you don't have do to they key command every time.

if u dont know how to ride a wave how u can determine if your board is good or not??? because of an magazine article, or becasue a friend told ya???

sure logic is very strange galaxy. but its the same with every sofisticated software for every aspect where the computers are main helpers. In grafic desing is the same. u'll hate programs like flash or illustrator becasue they are much more complicated. Logic audio is very flexible, is amazing but yous hould learn to use it so that u can apreciate it. Somebody around here compared logic and cubase this way:
Cubase is like buying the costume from the best designer, u'll look marvelous, great... but not unique..
Logic is like going to the best designer and he makes a costume especially for you, for your size, perfect.

if u are really afraid of Logic... just stay away from it.. u'll just loose your time

Ok guy, thanks VERY much for the help.

I'm able to sample ES1 and ESM now!!

oh my god...
Logic - cubase... the fight here it is again..

Ride the wave before you judge it, o yes, did the logic users do that??

Of course not, since they are quoting issues that are years old and not actual for a long time.

I spoke to a guy who is seriously into both ACTUAL versions of logic and cubase. He finds both crap, both have flaws, both should learn from each other, and he sais it's all a matter of taste. Which I belive too. By now I understood the basic concepts behind logic and can say that is an intresting way to achieve the same as cubase does. Depending on what corner you are from it maybe look "logic", but the same with cubase.

But one thing is for sure. using logic 5.5 TODAY on PC instead of cubase is not making any sense. Logic 5.5 compared to cubase SX3 or 4 is just outdated, obsolete, there is freeware around doing almost the same. L5.5 compared maybe to cubase VST5.

of course there is a dif,
but to say abelton has a better engine than logic and q is just following thier promotions... abelton is a great product, but if anything, it sounds a bit lofi and grainy to me.

I was refering to logic 5.5 only. I have never used cubase or ableton to do a full mix but I have now heard the same thing confirmed by several people. I'll still use 5.5 because it's what I'm used to and all I have unless I buy a Mac (which trust me.. I can't afford). But as logic 5.5 is now quite outdated I wouldn't be surprised if more recent software handles tasks more efficiently.

I've been a logic and cubase user and I'm at present using ableton for production, for sometime now. Logic cubase and Live have all a disctinve sound but I wouldnt say that ableton sounds lowfi cause thats simply not true. Live has nothing to envy logic or cubase Sounds wise.

For me, Logic was always known as a great software to work with Midi, as Cubase for audio...

Now it seems that both softwares are much more "complete"... For instance, u have the new quantize settings at Logic Pro(useful to place samples and working with cuts), and also u have the new audio instrument settings at Cubase(no more F11 to load VST).

About sounding... I made a test bouncing a kick-bass-snare combo(all samples/no clips), and no difference for me. U will only hear big differences when using their native fx´s, wich sounds very diferent to each other imo.

And my actual point of view...I´m a Cubase user, that sometimes use Logic. I have a feelling that Cubase is easier to "make the sounds", while Logic is easier to "arrange and mix"....           LOADING...
