This is good news indeed! I just started working on Reason and Cubase, and I need lots of Tutorials. I have little knowledge about how to use the programs to their full capability. I need many many hours to teach myself how to use them.

Maybe , there could be created some "task groups"
each handling some special sequencer i.e ( cubase , logic , pro t , reason .fruity and so on )this could maybe be an easier work process , each little group handling , their own field of knowledge , and on top of this could be a general knowledge group with i.e the theory of compression eq'ing , and so on .

Just my five cents .            3ó BooOoM ShanKaRA 3ó

Thats a great Idea. Music creation will surely go up a notch after we have proper psytrance tutorials at our disposal.

It's innovative ideas like these that made me join. Sounds very promising .

Yop!!
I must say it's the best idea I've seen on the net for a while. Let's share our knowledge and our Trance Culture.

Firts thing to be done might be to classify topics
by nature : Software, Hardware;
by brand : Steinberg, emagic, Akai...

After that, I think everybody can contributes in it's own part to the tutorials

talolard is now the project manager for this project. He has offered to help us with it when he saw that we got stuck with it and with a massive thank you we accepted

Any comments, suggestions, ideas, concepts, complaints, gifts, flowers, etc. should be directed to him.

Brilliant idea guys .
As a long time trance fan (maybe obsessed will be a better word ) I have always wanted to learn how to create music but never had the chance to learn it . Hopefully your plan will help me achieve a long awaited dream.
p.s

Ok guys, as karnaf said i'm going to kick some life into this project. I'll start with a bit about myself.
I'm 21 years old, live in israel, i put off my army service for a year and a half to study philosophy adn jewish studies, and nine months after i enlisted i was discharged due to a bowel infection. that was recently and i have since asked to volunteer to the army but have ample time on my hands to work on this project.
i dont have any formal musical training, ive been working on computer aided composition for three years and found much help in the forum. i would rate myself as a low level intermediate.

I think that covers it.
As for the project i believe that we should take our time and plan it from the roots up, know exactly what topics we would like to cover and what we would like to leave out.
i aslo feel that in light of the fact that their are plenty of electronic music tutorials, our tutorials must be unique in order to justify the effort required to create them. my guidlines are:
1. Holistic. the tutorial section as a whole will not be a collection of tutorials that are not related, redundent, superficial, contradicting etc. instead, i see my main job as garaunteeing a wide and deep perspective into the theory of psy-trance production.
2. Theory. I belive that theory is important. technique (for instance full on bass line technique) will always produce good tracks. but thwey are repetitive, as oposed to theory which gives you a platform for spontaniaty and rule breaking, creating better, ever developing music.
3. By artists for artists. We have a wealth of talented artists on this forum with a deep understanding of fundamental and advanced concepts. The other important aspect of my job is to help them (you) help us.
4. no external tutorials. All tutorials posted will be written for Isratarnce by Isratrance Members (not in the copyright sense). i think that "lending" somone elses tutorial is both immoral and detremental to the objectives.

Personnaly, i think that in light of the abundance of good beginer tutorials on the web we should avoid beginer level concepts. Ive talked to other members of the team and they disagree. I would like to know what you guys think of it.

Our contributers are working busy people, and even i will soon have less tiem on my hands. in spite of this and also becasue of it, i would like us to work under a time frame which generally looks thus.

1. now - 1/2/05: Finalizeing concepts. discussion of topics etc.
2. 3/2/05: i will publish a list of topics and a list of potential writers for each, and we will "auction off" each topic.*
3.15/2/05: a list of people commited to different topics. a second auction of topics not handled.
4. 1/3/05: drafts handed in.
5. 1/3/05-25/3/05 editing.
6. 26/03/05 uploading tutorials.

Of course the time frame, espeacially the latyer parts will change in accordance with my life and the amount and speed at wihch tutorails are written.

* I fear that if a list of topics is given generally, we will end up with some topics being written twice and many not ebing touched. i would prefer to know who can help, who speacalizes in what etc so that this can be done in an orderly fashion. I will find a way to store this data and utilize it easily and begin to ask you to fill in the blanks shortly.

The main thign that needs to be discussed here and now are the topics. i will post a small list here and would like you guys to EMAIL me your ideas (my email adress is at in my signature). i will reorganize the list a few times and post it again adn after a few iterations we will have our to do list.
1. rhythm and time signatures.
2. Harmonics (what is a spectrum, different eq methods, commonly used frequencys)
3. what is sound (scientifically, the basics for harmonics, info needed to understand equipment specs)
3.a. how is sound processed
4. synthesis (different types, what is an oscillator, what is the phase)
5. mastering
6. effects (a technical understanding of effects is something I assume the non
professional like myself does not know and thus hinders his production)
7. definition of trance and its sub genres, musical atributes

to this list please add more captions and more importantly sub topics. like a tree list. then i can see how different people see the relationship between difernt themes and structure the sight better.

i hope i have'nt worn you out with such a long post. a final note before i finish.
as with any group of people working together, their is always a danger of egos chafing.
i hope it is clear to everyone that i am doing this only because i have a passion for this community and would liek to see it grow and develop. i have no personal interests.
I see myself as an editor to the project meaning that i will have the last say in minor disputes. otherwise i fear that this project will turn intoa long boring argument and thats not what we want to create.
if i do insult or anegr anyone, please let me know adn remember that it is not out of misapreciation rather from myimmperfectiosn that such thigns stem.
So thank you everyone adn may the games begin.
Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt.
Dance like nobody's watching.
