holy shit is all i should have to say...
the brothers came to work it out @ sao paulo and blocked rocked our beats.
i would write this semi review in the review section, but for some reason i feel like its more then a review... it was a humbling experience first and foremost.
i actually came with quite high expectations- forewarned by some that all i might see are 2 guys in their mid 30's playing around on eq's and dancing like 2 monkeys on stage.
boy was that NOT the case!
first of all the venue had a serious sound setup, to me as a technophile this already gets me in the right mood. the dj before them who im not sure who he was, was playing some minimal techno to get the crowd going and move about... a great groovy set - but you could tell the volume was maybe at 60% not more.
then it happened... the next 2 and half hours were an auditory visual bliss... nothing short of that folks. they played what seemed to be one seamless track composed of all their tracks together, perfect inventive mixes between the songs and a melange of sounds that to my eyes and ears were definitely happening in live. i think i even caught i beat of a kick drum escaping them and a giggled look from tom to ed. wow, i just mean wow... there are no words to describe how psychedelic this event was. what made it super special was also the visual background that is in synch with their music. sometimes uncomfortable, sometimes stressy, then blissful and uplifting - - always highly psychoactive.
i dont think they played any track the way it actually sounds on their releases. it was like intro's from one blend into breaks from another and the body of a 3rd, back to an outro of yet another song and so on.
even for a chemical geek like me who is aware of all the tracks and is waiting for the oldies, they didnt disappoint. highly commercial and yet super psychedelic, i cannot stress this enough - what a lovely, intense combination.
i came to this show aware of myself in many levels. as a dancer i came to get my groove on. as a producer i came with an open mind to draw inspiration. as a human being i came to see what is nowadays sometimes missing from trance dance floors around the world... LOVE. yes, that's right - they even finished with big "love is all" displayed behind them...flashing in all its glory. i dont think i saw 1 unsmiling face in the entire place.
the chemical brothers took me to school on all levels of awareness, myself and everyone else was given a ride to one of the best live shows on earth.
my nickname Surrender makes more sense to me then ever... still my favorite album, still my favourite group.
highly recommended. "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Im a quite a big fan of Chemical Bros myself and really dig their creativity in all forms.
I hope i catch one of their shows sometime soon. But having said that, it isnt trance.
So why the review here?
Just a thought.

nice post , i dont find it offtopic at all actually
these guys are super musicians, producers and awesome performers too, just like you said. anyone who needs evidence can type "chemical bros live" in youtube and see for himself.
i think musicians in our small scene can learn a lot from these guys in terms of creativity, and re inventing yourself and your approach to music.
i enjoyd your review mate
oh , and i also confess to being a chem bros addict for quite some time now

The Sunshine Underground... if thats not psychedelic trance inducing, donno what is!
Owe them sooo much... 2 of us had even started a tribute band in highschool after discovering their music. Created rubbish in comparison but can't remember any other musicians that have inspired us to that level. Even discovered goa-trance through that channel.
Been a long long time since I heard their music... still only have audio cassettes of their albums. Thanks for the review Gadi... was weary before but will pick up their newer stuff and give it a shot.
Surrender is rocks
