OK for some time now I have been trying to get my head around all the various soundcard / audio interface options out there. And I am super confused!
There are starightforward soundcards like the Delta Series, there are USB interfaces and there are Firewire interfaces.
I currently have an Audiophile 2496. I use softsynths only at the moment, but plan on getting a hardware synth soon.
What I need to understand is - what is the inherent advantage in going for a higher soundcard / audio interface. Now there are these -
M-Audio Firewire Audiophile - this is cheaper compared to all others. Works at 24/96.
MOTU 828mkII - Around $900. Firewire. 24/96.
Tascam FW-1884 - Around $1500. 24/96 again. Also a digital control surface with many faders and knobs.
RME Hammerfall - 24/96.
The Creamware line of soundcards.
So again, does getting a better soundcard result in better sound? If one is only using softsynths?? If no live stuff is being recorded?
Besides the control surface, does a Tascam 1884 sound the same as a MOTU or an audiophile? They all operate at 24/96 - so what is the difference in sound, if any??
Peace:. |
