Jesus, for a minute there I thought you'd seen an Oberheim Matrix 12 for less than 700 euros, and my heart nearly stopped!

It's a good synth, but be aware that (as far as I know) it's not made by any of the same people behind the original Oberheim name. I've only used one once and I found the presets a little unsatisfying but you might well be able to get something decent out of it.

One friend who has an incredible and rare collection of synths said this OB12 is very weak when compared with other VAs. I have already listened bad things about it. And I don't remenber if this synth has the Tom Oberheim's signature. Of course, old Oberheims are pretty good, but I think you should try other VAs, such as Virus B tabletop or Novation Nova Laptop/Supernova I, which is within this range price. I know these synths haven't keys, but their oscillators and filters are more amazing and powerful than those in OB12.

I already had an Xpander, but I had to sell it. Gorgeous, monster, T-REX machine. But I think I prefer the Jupiter 8 or 6. Just my opinion.

I've got one and I like it... It's capable of producing some good sounds... but like Colin said, the presets really aren't anything to be happy about... Most of them are quite honestly crap... there's a few good ones, but to get nice sounds you really need to scratch the surface and dig a bit deeper.

If you want a nice synth with a keyboard and aren't affraid to do some programming... get it... if you just want a nice synth for your money, do what sonik_akb said.

Just my 2 cents           To hell with reality! I want to die in music, not in reason or in prose. People don't deserve the restraint we show by not going into delirium in front of them. To hell with them! - Louis-Ferdinand Céline

BEWARE: That synth has built in LATENCY

there's a pause of some milisecs before you can here a patch being played

it's one of the reason it's so cheap now

everysound will sound like it has a slow attack in the envelope (or a delay in fact)

quoting http://www.sequencer.de/esynth/oberheim_ob12.html

"it has latency! yes, it is the synthesizer, that has a remarkable time to fire up a voice when pressing a key. also the attack set to zero is quite audible as attack time"

sonik_akb: you're right... with my novation nova i can do *every* sound i hear in psytrance (and lots more)

i love my nova (hehehe)           roll a joint or STFU :)

You got it, I said that for my friends who produces psy-trance. They are closed-mind to Nord Lead and JP80x0! Novation rocks!
About Supernova II:
I think it allows an incredible fine-tuning into the VCO section. IMO, SNII has the most powerful VCO section in the VA market. For example:
- each oscillator has a kind of filter for shaping the waveform (thanks to 'Hardness' parameter)
- 'VCO drift' parameter allows to make better analog emulations (and massive + fats sounds)
- 'Sync Skew' and 'Formant Width' parameters allow complex sound-shaping
- Virtual sync: you can have three oscillators synced without to loose the real ones
- FM with three operators (normally, VAs only allow two operators - except Nord Lead 3 that's able to have 4 operators)
- 'Double saw' waveform for massive sounds

So, that's only about oscillators and architecture, there are the filters, effects (Comb filter effect is really great!).
Any sound, I say any sound in Psytrance is very easy to make using the Supernova. Unfortunately (or not hehehe), this synth is very underrated to psy.
