Is it possible that maybe the "spirit of OZORA" has just grown too big to be contained in that one valley?

If both sides of the split can stay with psychedelic music and keep prices reasonable (both ticket and food/drink prices) maybe it can continue and grow with both groups.

If either side moves too far from psychedelic music and into mainstream trance or other genres entirely, they will lose what so many people loved about OZORA.

I could be wrong, but I think what made Ozora special for many people was the fact that nearly everyone was there to dance together to psychedelic music in a relaxed open environment, rather than having everyone split between different genres or fed trance remixes of the latest top 40 pop songs, surrounded by security and fences!

This year was my first experience of OZORA.
It was also the first time I have spent most of a festival on nothing stronger than a few espressos, and enjoyed dancing to nearly everything played on the main stage on most days. (except from Wednesday night to the break on Thursday evening - I found almost nothing I enjoyed listening to during that time, although even that had a good side - that and the cooler damp weather gave me a chance to get some sleep and build up enough energy to keep going for the following 3 days with only 5 hours sleep!)

Hi there,

It's a sad thing that is happening here.

First of all we all have to be aware of one thing.
Taking out so many heads of the Organisation of the Ozora and basically mainly keeping the infrastructure and those who care for the infrastructure is about the same as taking a project like shpongle, remove simon posford and most of the musicians, take new musicians and let them work in the same studio but still call it shpongle.

Also one thing that I had to learn about the Ozora is the separation of the OWNERS of the Festival and the ORGANIZERS of the Festival. You have to think of it as the Owner actually EMPLOYING the organizer.

Or you have to look at it like the OWNER of the Shpongle studio and the Shpongle band actually making music in it.

It's a totally different thing after such a rapid change. If it would happen slowly it would maybe even be possible to maintain the spirit, but not if it is so sudden.

The next Ozora will be something different. That is sure. Not on the surface, but deep in.

Furthermore I want to say to those who rant against the old team: These guys and girls did the Ozora which we all loved and enjoyed so much. All those past years those people controlled the creative part of that festival, they obviously were highly responsible of the positive vibe in it. They did a great job. Don't you forget that.

The last two years were critizised by many regulars. And also the old crew ITSELF says it didn't go as they wished. So anyone who sees the occurrence of negative vibes of the last years just AGREES with the OLD crew. Those who now blame the occurence of negative things on the OLD crew are obviously just not getting it.

But how about the new crew?
In all fairness! They are still NOT the owners! They just are the new band in the studio!
I have no idea who that is, but one thing is for sure. They can put up with what ever there is of the OWNER with what the old crew can't. I don't know if its good or bad, it just seems to be that way.

What I can say is that I forgot to pick up my fee in 2010. I just didn't think about it, I simply wasn't really interested in even finding out where to get it. So in 2011 I asked for it and I got my 2011 and 2010 fee without any problem.

But I didn't get it from Balazs but from DANIEL. He handled the money. So I don't see how Balazs (as some said) could have taken any money out of the loop. That accusation surely is ridiculous. Daniel seemed to be a very nice guy, but what can I say after some short moments.

Balazs I know a bit better, also Oleg and I can say with all my judgment that those two guys have their heart in the right spot and anybody here who questions their honesty is downright wrong. If they leave or unhappy with the festival, they have good reasons. The leave and I find their way of doing it fair. They make it clear, that they don't wish anything bad to the project and dont have any problems with the new organizers.

What I do know for sure is that for a while there was friction between:
- maximizing the profit of the festival and
- offering the guests as much as possible and distributing the wealth to as many as possible.

And this, we can guess, is the friction between owner and organizer. the old crew couldn't go where they wanted, so they left. The new crew might run into the same friction, or not.
We all also have to understand that the success of a psytrance festival is a very delicat thing and it is very hard, if not impossible, for someone outside of the scene, a normal guy, to understand what it REALLY takes to make it a success for now AND the future.

Maybe this all happens as it should. Think about it.
Boom grew to 30'000 people in 2008. They were overrun. What happen? People were disapointed, 2010 only 20'000 came! Ozora grew to 30000 people, they were overrun. Not as massive as with boom, but also there were voices of people who said it was too big. Many say the wont come again, that they will go to smaller festivals. Personally I think that at some size of Festival the organisation has to decide if they want to set a limit if they want to keep the spirit and familiarity a live. In my opinion 15000 people with one floor and big enough camping, as Ozora 2010 is the maximum with which I can still find my friends and recognize enough strangers to make me feel "at home". 20000 with several floors, like boom 2010 is working well too. But everything above.. its something nice too, but its not familiar... So the ozora, imho, would have needed to limit its size for next year. which means, limit profit... exclude people... but this step is a bold one, most festivals dont do. So we see a supernova effect in psyfestivals (as some friend called it) blowing up, falling down. because psypeople want familiar festivals. there seems to be a limit in size. I estimate it to 20000. Besides. Those numbers are quite accurate.

Best wishes and peace.

@ subconsciousmind

Thanks for this post! Very well observed and said.
It pretty much covers the story.
I was involved for many years too apart from the last, and have left mainly for the same reasons too as now most people have done so.

As you say I think this is a natural process of some kind, totally agree with what you say. Its success kills it, and nobody is bold enough to limit the size. Also would not come across good in this community, many would not understand who are at the gate and not let in after traveling maybe thousands of kilometers... What would you do with hundreds if not thousands of people stuck outside?? Even if you limit the number beforehand, most people don't buy presale, so the maximum you would like to set, will only be achieved during the festival. When there are maybe thousand more queuing before you... You risk lynching when you tell them: "Sorry guys, go home, we are full" This is not a city, people coming from far away, some with caravans... It is impossible to predict all this. You can only rely on good guesses when you set up the infrastructure.
I think this huge "success" of 2011 was a surprise to all and clearly showed the point that some imminent changes are needed, they just cannot be delayed anymore. Instead of working this out with a team, who wanted a change and is aware of all the problems and challenges - and as SCM above says - have their hearts in it, a new team was appointed, who were happy probably to get the job and thus more willing to compromise. It's for you to decide which one you think makes more sense.
Time will tell. Maybe the uncertainties around the org and the BOOM next year will also take back the numbers of visitors next year, which is I think rather positive (for the visitors), maybe not for some though...

It is a huge responsibility to run a festival of this size, especially in this scene, being responsible for thousands of people. Something you can only achieve through dignity and earnest work and if you look at the benefit of ALL, not personal (yours or your friends etc.), to be able to distinguish. As numbers show it worked very well for the "ALL"...

I hope the new team will understand this too. As SCM points it out it is very challenging job they take on with existing conflicts.

It is very difficult to let your baby's hand go when you thought him how to walk and witnessed the first steps. But there was no choice... when the visions and principles of organizers and land owner differs to this extent, there is just no other way. It was high time to let go... Entertainment at any cost cannot be the goal in this scene, the end does not justify all means. Luckily there are plenty of options to chose from all over the world, so no need to cry here. For many small festivals this might even be a chance to start their own supernova-like journey. Life goes on, no matter where you are going to spend your festival budget next year.

For me the best years were when only 7-8000 people attended, I will keep that memory of O.Z.O.R.A.
