A question about sample rates/bit depths:Is it right to work only with 16/44.1 material?A lot of people say that the higher the numbers the higher the quality. But in the end we export our project in 16/44.1.So when I change a file from 16/44.1 to,let's say 32/96 then back to 16/44.1 for burning is the .WAV become of better quality?I read the same question (and an answer) in the CM magazine but they confused me even more...And another thing-the higher the numbers the higher the space they take!So after all this confusion I got a way to handle it:I use audio tracks (in Cubase & FL)in 32/96 but the final work I'll export in 16/44.1...What do you think? Is it really necessary?Or 16/44.1 is good,I mean why mess with the files all the time...THNX!

u'r not mistaken you work on a project in a 16/41.1
mode and export it in the same status so i think you shouldnt export it into 32/96.

start in the high quality.it will be hear in your tracks.for sure.
just in the end final mix doen need to be on 16 bit/44.1 and that becasue most of the players out there will play your tracks only in that rate-what to do.
until the future will come with the machins we will still export in 16/44.1.
the c.d players -most of them-work in that rate and bit.
i know that i work allways in the high quality and you can hear it in my tracks...
hope it help
cheers

IMO 24 bit is your best bet. 16 is slightly lossy, and 32 is overkill. Most soundcards only have 20 bit A/D converters to begin with. Working at 16 won't ruin your music though, it'll just make it a tiny bit harsher. Plenty of people do it. |
